Bandy Creek

Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone could give me campsite recommendations for Bandy Creek campground in the Big South Fork National Recreation area in Tennessee. I will be camping in a 31 ft. Fiver with my wife and 2.5 yr old grandaughter. Thanks in advance for any help you can lend.
  • If you want separation from other sites, D36-D40 are on the back of a small loop, at the end of a road leading in. Those are easily the best sites in the campground. I saw them full of 35 ft+ motorhomes & 5th wheels. D20-22 are also at the back of a loop but closer to other sites. C-14-C16 are decent, too.

Avoid the ones on the inside of the loops--you probably won't fit in many of them, anyway.

There is a layout of the campground on the Reserve America site.

The entire Big South Fork is amazing, and Bandy Creek is a very nice campground. If you go in the spring, Leatherwood Ford is a great wildflower spot. It is bear country, take appropriate precautions.
  • I forgot to mention that you should approach from the west (rt 127 Jamestown). If you approach from the east you will be faced with two 13% grades and 4 or five really tight switchbacks going down to the river and back up to the campground. If you come in from the west and your gps tells you to take the first turn off on W. Bandy Creek Rd don't take it. It will get you to the campground but it's a dirt road. Continue on and take the second turn off on E. Bandy Creek Rd. Watch for the sign and don't miss it because it's right before the steep downhill drive to the river.
  • Practically all of the rv sites are very nice so take your pick. If you need 50 amp service only five sites have it. They are identified on the map available at the following link:
    Bandy Creek
We stayed in a 50 amp site (D48) the last time we were there. It is level, spacious, and across from the restrooms/showers.
  • We stopped there a few years ago and found it a very nice campground. Although I can't particularly recommend any certain sites, you might find my pictures and comments helpful. It does include pictures of a number of sites.

    Have a great trip!
