It's nearing that time again to make our annual reservations for Bluewater Key in Florida for 2018. We were there for a week in 2016 and left with such a good impression we vowed we would return as often as possible.
Have not called their office for a post hurricane damage assessment but plan on it soon. Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge of the damage inflicted by the hurricane? I would hope any damage sustained would be repaired by next spring.
We stayed there a week and a half ago. The lot we were on, #8, was in excellent condition. No apparent damage other than to the shrubbery. Right now about 30+ lots are back open for rental. The pool and the common areas are cleaned up and in good shape. The lots on the canal side were left with relatively minor damage. Some canal side tiki's had to have the thatching repaired/replaced and quite a bit of vegetation was damaged, but it's remarkable how it's already rebudding and growing back. Several of the bayside lots had significant damage to the tiki's and docks. Crews are actively addressing the problems. You'll be in good shape for the spring .
We were in the keys a week or so after the hurricane and the back down a couple weeks ago. FEMA and FDOT and all the others are doing an outstanding job cleaning things up. Sure, there are still piles of debris, but it's rapidly being addressed. If you had seen it after the hurricane and compare it to now, it's just amazing.
