Anybody been to the Bill Monroe Blue grass festival in Nashville Indiana?
About a 6 hour trip for me, looking for a reference or other things to do! I have found some things but I want to go to the Festival and I need to find some things for the wife. She is all in but I want to find some other things for her/our interest! It is after all her vacation time we are using. She says it has to be at least a week long! We have other trips planned for this year but this is what I suggested! Spur of the moment thing, Its great being an empty nester! She likes gift shops, wineries, tours etc.! We will only have about a week in June.
Would like some feed back.
She is asleep as of right now but I have just reserved a short 4 day trip in May that is 115 miles from home so she will be surprised when she wakes up!
She tells me to find places and make reservations and she will be ready to go at the time I arrange!
About late August she will hand me a copy of her vacation days and they will be at least 2 weeks and tell me to find a place to go! Health issue prohibit me from mountain travel so I stay in the Midwest for the most part!

Indiana is a confused place:
  • North Judson is in the south
  • South Bend is in the North
  • And "French Lick" isn't anything like you think! ๐Ÿ™‚

But I agree with Dutchmen Sport - that entire area is great.
Brown County is beautiful, as is all of Bloomington and IU. One of the prettiest campuses I've seen. Nashville has lots of little stores and places of interest.

And Hoosier National Forest (where I used to work 35 years ago) has a great campground called Hardin Ridge on Monroe Reservoir, with a visitor center, trails, boating, fishing, etc.

Enjoy!

Being retired railroader I think the train ride would be pretty neat!
I would probably need one of the other campgrounds because I read in some info about the Bill Monroe CG is usually booked up by the end of March for that festival! I think we are going for it! Thanks for the info!

She will love Nashville, there is a winery just east of Nashville in Pleasant Valley also known as Gnaw Bone.
Story Inn is worth the drive too for a meal.

Nashville, Indiana is located very near Brown County State Park. Brown County State Park is probably THE most popular and visited and loved state park in the entire state. They provide all sorts of activities, features, and trails.

Nashville is not too far from French Lick, Indiana. You can take a train ride at the Rail Road museum, visit the French Lick Casino (You don't need to spend money gambling), and remember, this is the childhood home of Larry Byrd.

Bloomington, Indiana is not that far away either. Bloomington, home of Indiana University. It'w worth a driving tour of Bloomington and IU.

And not to mention, Hoosier National Forest is nearby too.

Nashville is full of little shops, and a fun little town to visit. There are a number of private campground in the same area, and if you do a simple Google search on the Internet for "Things to do in Nashville, Indiana", you'll get quite a variety of ideas, pick what interests you, there's a lot there.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!
