Boondocking really exists?

I cant believe that there are places that you can pull off the road and just stay there. Not only for free but without fear of being arrested. That's just crazy talk to a guy from Mass. Technically I can get in trouble for letting someone stay in my MH while its in my driveway. So you cant even boondock on your own property where I live.

Nope. Real nasty winters and springs. All in the perspective, eastern Oregon is beautiful in all seasons, its in the eye of the beholder.

It also doesn't hurt that there is a perception out there that Oregon has nasty weather all winter .... and I surely won't do anything to counter that urban myth 🙂

The nice part about the whole Eastern seaboard descending on Oregon, is they're most likely not paying much attention to the dry eastern parts of Oregon cuz everyone loves the coast and green mountain forests.

However, we like the more remote high deserts and inland eastern mountain ranges. The crowds generally stay out of those parts. We live with trees all around us, many of which I have to keep trimmed and then burn the trimmings every spring. We have no problem being away from the Oregon trees (and coastal crowds) for awhile. 😉

(We also live close enough to a coast to see all we want of it.)

Unfortunately, Chris, you would be horrified to see the condition of the national forests within easy driving distances of major urban centers, especially in California. Sadly, the same is true of the coast of Northern Baja -- there is a shocking amount of trash along the beaches, and much of it is local in origin. (Some of it is flotsam and jetsam -- I never can remember the difference between those two things.)

If you look long and hard enough, though, you can find pristine boondocking in the West, especially east of the Sierra crest and into the Basin and Range territory. I was especially impressed with the public land in Utah -- the boondockers out there were much more well-behaved, for some unknown reason. Obviously, that's just my subjective impression -- I don't have hard data to support that opinion.

When I grew up camping it was easy. Don't leave anything behind and if you found something from someone else, pick it up.

Sure anytime! I came from Sunset Beach (SoCal). So theres not enough achohol on the planet for me to swim in that cold of water! My older backyard was Seqioa Natl Park, another great place.

How does it do when camping in the sun ... I can't tell from the photo, but it looks like a dark color?
