Boondocking safety-Are you armed?

In 15 years I've never felt threatened. Criminals are lazy, they generally don't drive to secluded places.

Pistols and semi's are questionable in the land of Lenin, I'm just carrying a 20 ga pump in the camper and a handgun where my CC permit allows, and I tend not to visit those countries where its not.

That does raise a good question...what are the rules concerning a shotgun and state lines?

I don't boondock but I am armed. Don't plan on needing a weapon but a lot of things happen that we don't think will. Better prepared than not.

All 50 states allow hunting. a pump shotgun with a plug to only hold a maximum of 3 rounds is as close to universally acceptable as you may find.
Coincidentally, a few empty shell casing on the ground outside your camper can make someone wonder about you.

I've camped all over northern California and have never been threatened let alone felt threatened.

And, as I answer when folks question my being a woman and camping alone, I am at more risk in my home town shopping, etc., then I am out in the forest. A criminal waiting in a dark alley in town will find a victim a lot faster than one waiting behind a tree in the forest...

If you do choose to carry firearms with you......camping or otherwise....PLEASE be sure that they are completely secured when not in your immediate possession.

For every one permitted citizen that successfully defends himself against a criminal with a gun.......about 10 family members or friends are killed in accidents or the gun is stolen and used by a criminal to kill someone.

Legal guns kill innocent people when they fall into the wrong hands.

I have "protection" but never take it with us camping (except once) in 30 years. What we do have is alternative protection: very vocal dog that don't take no guff from anyone or anything!

At home, he's the alarm and at home my 20 gauge with that really cool "click-click" sound is my "warning" to get out of dodge! NEVER had to use it, but the dog sure sure let us know when someone comes around. Even inside the camper is someone walks through our campsite! ALWAYS get OUR attention, and when looking through windows, the attention of whoever is outside!

Best protection we have ... our beloved doggie!

I have 3 pitbulls and leave the guns at home unless camping in the desert where we shoot in which case a M&P 40 and 22LR are in the trailer.

Some are intimidated by firearms. Some don't leave home without them.
I like the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy when it comes to firearms. :C
