Buccaneer State Park, choose route carefully

FW versus train

The park webpage suggests a route across Lakeshore Blvd that avoids the bad track crossings. This guy was on the route my GPS suggests and got hung up on the tracks. Fortunately he punched it and broke the truck free of the trailer before the train hit.

If coming off of I-10 take the first Mississippi Rest Area exit coming out of LA. Go right till you see the road that goes to the Silver Slipper casino (well marked). That road takes you to the gulf then turn left. Do a googles on the route if need the name of the roads.

    Route 90
    Lakeshore Blvd
    Beach Rd

This is a great park so don't let my post scare you away. Follow these directions and you will have zero problems with track crossings.

Yeah Clearmont has a nasty hump while Lakeshore is fairly level.

Somehow I got down Clearmont with no sign, slowly went across sideways and made it. Another class A busted a holding tank that day.

I went out Lakeshore down towards the casino and had no problem.

Are the crossings in town ok?

    No.

  • My GPS took me that way 2 years ago when I came in from the west. I rolled across very slowly to be sure it didn't hang up. It's very steep
