Campground near White Sands national monument

Looking for a rv park near White sands national monument
  • Best Park near White Sands National Monument, bar none, is Boot Hill RV Park in Alamogordo. Just returned from a 10 day stay with them. Owners, Cindy and James are terrific. If you can, try for a back in site near the trees. All other sites are large PTs.

Also, don't miss the White Sands Missile Range Museum on the White Sands Army Base; also near White Sands Nat. Monument. The missiles displayed there are terrific and are all missiles tested there. Do check WSNM website daily because often the highway and monument are closed if actual missile testing is going on. Of course, you have to be a good guy to get on the base so have your drivers license, proof of vehicle insurance and registration.

    Happy Travels

We also stayed at Boot Hill. Very nice people running the place. They lent us a couple saucers to use for sledding at White Sands... what a blast !

Another positive experience at Boot Hill. March of 2018.

Mexican restaurant nearby was good but too much food. Check out the New Mexicao Space Museum in Alamogordo. This was a great stop and had some displays even better than the Johnson Space Center in Houston. The International Space Hall of Fame is part of this museum and we enjoyed seeing all the participates, including Russians, who have been named to the Hall of Fame. Even a special section to Star Tek!

  • We also stayed at Boot Hill RV in Alamogordo. It was convenient to White Sands. Clean with plenty of room, but the usual barren desert landscape of the west. There was a nice Pistachio farm, Heart of the Desert across from it that was interesting to go see.
  • I don't recall seeing anything near the NM, we stayed in Alamagordo. Maybe at the Boot Hill RV. It was a short drive to the park and the best time to visit is very early in the morning. We actually visited right at sunset.
