We just spent a week in Marathon at Jolly Roger in May - enjoyed the CG - good central location to visit the Keys. We were off season, so it wasn't full - imagine it would be tight when busy. Still a nice spot. Check RV Park Reviews for reviews and other CGs in the area. ST

You'll never get in any of the four state parks during the holiday season or any other time during the winter unless you are extremely lucky.
Try Jolly Roger which is a good one on Grassy Key, but you'll be lucky to get in there too.
We winter in the Keys in Key Largo Kampground and love it there

If you don't have a dog with you, check out Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge. It's just across the 7 mile bridge from Marathon. Nice family park-- no dogs due to the key deer that wander thru the park.

This may not help the OP, but is it easier to get a reservation when the kids are in school?

We are at Bahia Honda SP, now. Very tough to get reservations, especially on the water! Snowbirds fill up the Winter months...I'm working on next year's reservations,now, but it's like playing the lottery!
