We, being members of the Coaster Crew coaster club and Six Flags season pass holders have stood at a few places around SFNE. Last year, we stood at Sodom Mountain. Friendly place, but it is basic. Where we were, showers/bathroom was a trailer unit. Looked bad on the outside, but they were clean and kinda modernized inside. The year before, we stood at Sunset View in Monson, MA. The place had pay showers, but were clean (never mind paying a quarter or 2 for clean showers). That place I liked a bit better. Both places have pools, and Sunset View also has a man made swimming lake. Both are about the same distance from SFNE. Any questions, feel free to ask.
We got season passes this year that is good for all six flag parks. We also wanted to go to Lake George. Any recommendations on full hook up cg in lake george? Thanks
Lake a George RV Park is were you would want to stay. Really nice place close to six flags and the center of town with trolley service. - DrewEExplorer II

There are several campgrounds around the Lake George area. It's very much a resort area (and has been for many many years). The Great Escape is actually south of Lake George proper (it's actually in the town of Queensbury). I think the Lake George RV Park is the closest one at approximately a mile away; it appears to be quite nice if rather spendy. (I have no personal experience with any campgrounds in the area, as I live close enough to make it a reasonable day trip.)
In my opinion, it's not really worth making a special trip of a day or two just to visit the Great Escape. It's not a huge park, and doesn't offer too much unique that you won't find elsewhere. The Comet is a possibly an exception for roller coaster fans, since it's of historical interest, rather unusual in construction (a wood coaster with steel supporting structure), and good fun to ride. - CroweExplorerWe stayed at Sunset View for an overnight a number of years ago. It was clean, kid friendly, and not expensive. Just a head's up, though, the tree frogs if you have a site near their pond are LOUD! I love the sound, but it creeps some people out.
- ChooChooMan74ExplorerSunset View was just north of the tornado damage. Head into town, and you can see where it went through. Drive east on Rt 20 and you will see some horrifying damage still.
There are a LOT of campgrounds at Lake George. I have not camped there yet. Since The Great Escape is a small park, we just made our first trip there this year since the little one can now ride everything there now. - Campin_LIExplorer

From Monson you need to drive through Springfield, so avoid rush hours. From Sodom Mountain you'll not hit any traffic. Monson got hit pretty bad with a tornado a few years back, some of the CG's got pretty much stripped bare, don't know about Sunset View, ChooChoo should know. Another to look at is Prospect Mountain, it's up in the hills so you'll do some climbing, nice area though. There is also Southwick Acres but I've never heard of anyone staying there, looks like all seasonals from the road.
Southwick is closest at 20-25 min, then Sodom Mt at 25-30 min, the other 2 are about the same but in different directions roughly 40 min.
I don't camp that close to home so you'll have to get reviews from others.
Sad to hear about the tornadoes. I will look into all the mentioned cg's. Thanks. - Campin_LIExplorer

A quick check on RV Park Reviews shows that Sodom Mountain is the closest one with the best reviews.
Do you have a toad? Pine Acres is the best one in central Mass, but it' about an hour away.
We have a travel trailer.Thanks - Campin_LIExplorer
