Canadian taking a boat to Lake Havasu

I'm thinking about taking my 21ft pontoon boat to Lake Havasu to use while wintering there. Is there anything special I should know before I head south ?
  • Just make sure you have all your registration info for when you cross the border back into Canada. They are going to want to confirm you are not importing the boat. You can also stop in to Canada customs on your way south and have them document that you are taking it out of the country.
  • Oh, if you are going to do the a Colo river, holiday or long week end are not good for us slow boaters. Gets pretty wild out there at times
  • Does anyone sell charts that show the depths/hazards of Lake Havasu like marine charts?
  • Very aggressive law enforcement. NOT heavy handed, but they rigidly enforce the laws , especially the drinking while boating and NO wake laws, so be forewarned.
  • Once you have your boat there watch out for shallow areas as river dumps into the lake. Otherwise beautiful scenery going up the river.
  • Doing basically the same thing. Have 90 days to use it with your "states" registration number. My problem is we are leaving the first of December and they haven't sent my regestration renewal form. Local registration dept won't give me a new tag without it. This is the first time for us bringing a boat so I hope they will at least forward my renewal to AZ. I can at least show a print out of my intentions when I renew on line if I get stopped, which is very likely on the Colo river.
