Candy Hill Winchester Va

Well, they have not changed from their rude self of the past. Our group stopped holding rallies there a while ago because of it. Then last night a friend came into town traveling thru and stayed there. I went to pick them up for dinner and was told I could not go back and get them unless I paid. I could have everyone walk in the rain or I could park pay and walk back. He could see my handicapped tag in the window. I said here they are standing right next to him waiting for him to move so they could get in. We decided to have them follow me in their car so they would not have to walk back to their coach in the rain.

They have a very unfriendly attitude and I would never stay there. Lots of places are at least friendly after you pay your money. Oh and they are right on the main road and have loads of noise.

I had a good experience when I stayed at Candy Hill. As for charging for visitors a number of campgrounds do that. The good reason is for security but I suspect the real reason is for revenue. Anyway I'm sorry that you had issues there.

In our 51 years of RV'ing, Candy Hill in Winchester VA was the worst experience by far we had ever encountered. Beyond rude and simply vulgar language and actions by the manager every time he came around with his golf cart. Smelled strong of alcohol stench and cussed a blue streak. 4 of us who are retired in 2 rigs sitting by the fire after dinner with NO alcohol at all and talking quietly when planning our next day's travel on our way back from Maine after visiting Washington DC for 2 days.

We were in the upper part of the CG all alone with not one other RV within 4 sites on either side and he comes up on his golf cart and starts screaming and cussing that we were to put out the fire out and get in our RV's or packup and get out. Asking why and he said we were talking and it's beyond their quiet time rules. Yes, we'd reported it to RV Review and have told many others who many said thay also had bad experiences there.

The real way to correct the issue is to never stay there and tell everyone and other RV'ers what it's actually like in print and by voice and starve the place until it closes. We've done our part and will continue to do so!

We go to several of the same Virginia Camp grounds and State Parks within a couple hundreds miles around here. They all have their rules but have really never run into any major problems. Maybe it is because we are return visitors???

When we have family visitors coming out to see us we usually leave their names at the gate and they come on in without any problems.

Same thing with all the gated communities around here.

I won't blame it on the entire state of VA. Va has many nice CG's and state parks. However Candy Hill is not one of them.
Their real problem is they have too many rules. There are other CG's with this mentality. Morris Meadows in MD comes to mind.
They have too many rules and attempt to enforce the all.
Common sense never supersedes their rules.
The idea that you can't pick up people in a rainstorm without paying is silly.
