Cape Henlopen State Park, DE

This state park has recently completed a lot of improvements, more and larger sites for all RV's with water and electric. We live nearby and will be checking it out. We aren't "campers" , but a lot of you are and often mention Delaware Seashore park. Cape Henlopen is wooded and shady with both bay beaches and the ocean not far away, including Rehoboth Beach. It is a beautiful place to camp, and the Cape May Ferry is practically in walking distance. Bike riding and hiking is phenomenal. Plenty of places to walk your dog as well. We love going there just for the day.
  • Hi neighbor. I just made reservations for mid June and got one of the last sites for mid week. I only live about 15 minutes away, but still looking forward to it. The last time I was there was about 3 years ago. They had a strict no generator rule. Now that they have electric, it will be nice to run the AC on those warm days. Some have commented they did not like the setup but I think the place will do very well. I am too old for tent camping myself. I think that State Park has some of the prettiest beaches on the East Coast. I am glad to be a resident. I will post some pics when I get back.
  • We love Cape Henlopen, we wish it was a little easier to get from there to downtown Rehoboth though... We are going to Deleware Seashore for a quick 2 night trip in 2 weeks, but we looked for a spot at Henlopen first!

I've never camped there, because we require electricity. I was very excited to see they finally added it last year. We will be at Deleware Seashore for a week in August, I definitely plan to go to Henlopen and take a bike ride through it!

If they could extend Dune Rd out of the park to Ocean Dr in north Rehoboth I would be in HEAVEN! Charge the park fee for any vehicle that wants to drive that road, but it would cut the drive from 30-45 minutes down to 5...

I'll check out the hiker/biker trail next time. Its only about 4 or 5 miles past Gordon Pond.

Thanks, I am looking forward to hearing about your experience. The added concrete pads should make the sites really nice. The additional parking at the point was also welcomed.
  • I was in the area yesterday and stopped at the CG to see if they would allow me to check out the site I reserved. I will be staying in F section. I have heard that that area resembles a parking lot....They were right. I will give it a shot and do a walk thru so I can give it a fair assessment.

Can someone post some pictures of the new sites?

If you go on the destateparks web site, go on the on line reservation link, they have individual site pictures. Put in a date, they will show available sites, click on map, when you click on a specific site, is shows size and a photo. I will be taking some when I am there next week. I will post some then.
