Covid 19 warning

For what it's worth, I just received news a good friend of mine passed away this morning from Covid 19. He got while RVing and they were being careful. His wife also go it, probably from him, but just got very ill. He was on a ventilator in hospital for 2 weeks. He was healthy and active. This is a wake up call for me. A winter at home beats eternity 6 ft under. This disease is not one to be blase about, it is not a hoax, it is not less dangerous than flu. Think long and hard before you decide to play Russian Roulette by heading for the sun this winter before there is a vaccine.

Mike that assumes you actually know the number of cases. Statistics are a funny thing, change one parameter and the entire overall picture changes. With a disease like covid the cause of death can be questionable. Since it causes pneumonia, how many deaths get reported as pneumonia or vice versa? The best way may be to compare total deaths in a fixed area with those of the previous year. In Mexico City for example those are up 160% and that number does not jive with the reported covid deaths by a long shot. That indicates the numbers there are either being covered up, or a large number are dying at home without ever seeing a hospital. I suspect the latter. I do know for example that all hospitals are 100% full in Puerto Vallarta, my brother in law lives there.

Besides, if you do the math and compare total fatalities to total confirmed cases, the USA loses 3.4 people per hundred cases, Canada has lost 7.7 people per 100 cases, and Mexico has lost a whopping 11.1% of their total cases.

Using this website for the total number of cases, and the total number of deaths. It's a more meaningful stat than the deaths per million which is based on population of each country and is meaningless in real terms, since we don't know how many infections there are in the entire population of any country, because the testing isn't that comprehensive anywhere yet. Total deaths as a percentage of total cases gives a more realistic picture of how likely you are to die from the virus, if you're a confirmed case, in any (your own) country.
Divide the total deaths by the total confirmed cases, times 100, gives you the percnetage of deaths within the actual group that has tested postitive for the virus.

I'm assuming this Covod 19 tracker website's numbers are reasonably accurate, as I think I got the link from the WHO or CDC website. There are other Covd Tracker websites but they all seem to get their numbers from this one.

They are now finding long term heart effects as well. Nasty disease. Vaccine can’t come fast enough.

And to the OP: I'm sorry about the loss of your friend 😞 Those who think this is "just the flu" are tap-dancing on thin ice. My neighbor's daughter (a nurse in a Covid ER wing) just lost a baby at 5-1/2 months: it was fine at the 5-month ultrasound; and two weeks later, had no heartbeat. A second ultrasound revealed "something wrong with the baby's brain" (possible stroke?) and the OB-GYN wrote death due to Covid complications. Clearly, Covid is a blood-borne illness....

I don't care how new you are to an area, The signs on the Interstate say Vancouver, BC! And you are warned ahead of time that you are nearing the border when you are given options of which way to go. We've gone to BJs a few times. Dave is on a very restrictive diet because of his kidneys, the diabetes, and heart conditions - - essential Kale and cardboard and he hates Kale. Plus, he can't eat ANY onions without severe, and I means severe, lower gastrointestinal tract flare up late at night. Try finding low salt anything without a lot of onions added to replace the salt - next to impossible. And it has gotten so that it is almost as much hassle trying to figure out what you can order from a place that will be on their takeout menu, plus going to get it, etc., that we just cook at home. But that's for the recommendation. We have found that Barros does delivery to our park and they do a nice white sauce pizza with chicken, so maybe once a month or so we will order that. We did get a Betty Crocker table pizza baker that is big enough to take a premade pizza base, add our own toppings and 10 minutes later it is done. No need to heat up the oven and it also make pretty good quesadellias using low sodium soft tortillas.

Actually it isn't. People marching outside aren't nearly as likely to become infected as those cramming into bars, pools, family gatherings that are indoors with no masks! Most of the marchers are wearing masks, and moving so that they are getting large doses from an infected person. Look at July 4th gathering of boats on a sandbar in one of Michigan's lakes. LOADS OF PEOPLE there, partying, singing, dancing, etc., 10 days later the ERs are seeing incoming cases.

Because of medical issues, we didn't leave our park model in Arizona this spring, we are still here. Not many in the park, no socialization going on. We keep to ourselves going out to pickup groceries (they bring it to the car) and having other things delivered, plus assorted medical appointments. I do pickup takeout 2-3 times a week, otherwise my best friend and I are trying to ride out the heat. Don't see it will be much different this winter, but why huddle in in the cold, when you can do so in the warm?

Barb, before we left, we twice got a 1/2 price pizza to go from BJ's Brewhouse. Give them a try. Chris
