dauphen island, alabama

stayed at dauphin island, ala.? we are going to the campground this week and wondered if anyone stayed there. not the pelican, the one at the east end of the island. thanks.
  • I have stayed there several times. Nice walk to the beach and the campground itself is nice and shady/flat. What in particular did you want to know?
  • We like Dauphin Island (the Dauphin is the oldest son
of the French King).......this is an old campground....
    grassy sites.....some shaded........walk down a boardwalk
    to the gulf...........small camp store.......campground
is across the road from the ferry landing, a fun ride
across the bay and back.......small playground for kids....
no cable TV or other fancy things.....one grocery store
on the island.......long way back to another...........take
in what you need.......one or 2 gasoline stations......
a bakery, a couple of restaurants.....charter salt water
fishing.....crossing the high rise bridge to the island
    is fun..........
  • Yes, big rigs are no problem for the Dauphin Island campground.

For the O P..........when you arrive, you will cross a high
bridge over the intracoastal canal. On the island, this road
comes to a 'tee'......turn left/east, and go about a mile or so,
come to a ferry landing on the left and the campground on the
right....keep going, to the campground entrance
on your right......this is a TIGHT turn, almost 180 degrees.
Swing wide left to make this right turn.
  • thanks everyone, we leave tomorrow morning, gonna stay somewhere near ft. payne, then on in the next day. looking forward to surf fishing, and riding our bicycles. and snorkeling if its warm enough and clear enough.
  • dauphin Island was good. nice campground, rode our bikes caught a few fish, rode the ferry over to fort morgan, took our bikes and spent the day. had a great time. if we are ever in the area I will definitely go back. thanks for the info.
