We enjoyed visiting the Old Montana Prison and Grant-Kohrs Ranch Historic Site near Deer Lodge.

If you are headed South on I-15, Bannock State Park is about 113 miles South of Deer Lodge.

Looking for a "campground" with services, or a nice woodsy, out of the way spot??

If the second, try Race Track Campground. A Nat Forest site just SW of Deer Lodge. Right on river, fairly decent sized sites, hand water pump, AND bear boxes!!! We fit with a Jayco that was about 27 ft overall. Don't think I will stop there again, now with a 34 ft trailer!!!

www.riverfrontrvparkmt.com Just a few miles West of Deer Lodge. Take the Garrison exit. Short drive back to Deer Lodge to see the prison and other shops.

We like to stay at Indian Creek campground when in the area. The large rig sites give you a lot more space. Management is real nice and they work hard to keep the park in nice shape. From there you can tour Butte Montana's copper mining industry as well as the old prison in Deer Lodge. We are not fans of the KOA which is also in Deer creek.

You would also be only about 80 or so miles from Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park, just off I-90.

Definitely recommend the above!! If you only need an overnight CG in Deer Lodge and don't want to unhook, there is a CG right off the interstate, and I THINK it is called simply Deer Lodge CG. Right next door is a restaurant, the Four B's. Best tomato soup I've ever had anywhere.

On edit: It's called Indian Creek CG. Glorified parking lot with grass, but inexpensive (at least it was in 2009) with full hookups.

Another vote for Indian Creek. Nothing fancy, but near both the prison and Grant Kohrs ranch which are definitely worth a visit.
