Destin Fl. To Huntsville al.

We will be leaving Henderson Beach State Park in Destin on a Monday and driving to Huntsville, which route have some of you taken. Thanks a lot for your help. We always come down through Mississippi but want to visit our Granddaughter in Huntsville.

jplante4- we love Henderson beach, this is our 3rd year. The positives are many including some of the cleanest showers and restrooms ever, also the privacy of the campsites is very good, short walk to beach from campground via boardwalk. the only negatives are no sewer sites, and to some being so close to the shopping. Across street from Walmart for example. Some have said traffic noise was a problem but this has not been an issue with us. Hope this helps. Maybe others will let you know what they think.

We have made the trip many times. I would take 331 to Highland Home, AL and then SR 97 to US 31. Turn right, (not left, as your GPS may say) on US31. Follow 31 to intersect I-65 at mile marker 164.

There is actually a short cut that begins at DeFuniak Springs. Follow FL SR83, changing to 153 in Alabama, Then take AL SR52 to US331 in OPP, AL. This is very helpful when northbound traffic is heavy.

How did you like Henderson? We did Topsail in Feb and thought about Henderson next time.

Thanks a lot. The second choice sounds good, as you said to avoid the tolls. Looks like breakfast at the Do-nut hole and then on to Huntsville.

The way I go is across the Mid Bay Bridge to Niceville then Hwy. 85 to Crestview. You can turn left onto Antioch Road before you get to Crestview until it ends at Hwy. 90. Take a left on Hwy. 90, go about a mile turn right onto Hwy. 4 that turns into Hwy. 189 to Hwy. 137. Then right on Hwy. 29 all the way into Andalusia, AL. Take Hwy 84 to Hwy. 55 to Georgiana, Al then a few miles to I-65.

To avoid the expensive tolls of the Mid Bay bridge and the new Niceville by-pass toll connector (especially when pulling a trailer) leave Destin and go East on 98 to Hwy. 331 North to Hwy. 55 into Andalusia and on to I-65.
