You might check out Pine Mountain in Pigeon Forge, they have outdoor pool and at an adjacent hotel an indoor pool and a lazy river. Very nice property and on the trolley route.

Thanks Phil & Stephie. I've contact them to see if they have any answers. I had looked at Pine Mountain as well, but I forget what made me book River Plantation. We're also going to try out the KOA in the Smoky Mountain area - seeing as we've never travelled this far with our trailer, and are completely new to the area!

For the little one - do Ripley's Aquarium. For the whole family - Comedy Barn. We did not feel Dollywood was a good value for the money.

Take in Great Smoky Mtns NP and do the walk up to Clingman's Dome. And if you want to have some fun with science (maybe a bit much for a 6 year-old) take a foil bag of potato chips with you from your camper up to the top of the mountain - it will puff up like a pillow. Take along a couple bottled waters, too. After you drink them at the summit (or even most of it), screw the cap back on and watch what happens when you descend back into town!

I love river plantation as well as Smokey Bear campground in Gatlinburg too.

1. Suppose to be in the upper 80's to near 90 in the coming week. Don't know when you are coming, but don't think pool heated. They also just added a lazy river.
2. As I remember all sites have a fire pit.
3. Dollywood, Aquarium, and there are all kinds of other activities in the area.

River Plantation is our favorite in the area. Sites have more space than the other parks, always clean.

Sugarplum, It has been a while since being in that area but as I remember check out Cade's Cove. It is a slow drive around the area and has an old style village in the back. It should also be easy to see deer and possible bear close to the car. You might also check out Riverside RV which is in close proximity to River Plantation in Seiverville. Have a great trip. We will be there in middle September.

We just got back from the Gatlinburg with 3 of our Grandchildren (5,6 and 8). We were going to stay at Pine Mtn but friends convinced us to stay at the KOA right at Old Mill Square. It's a very nice CG and the location is super. You can walk across Patriot Park and pick up the trolley. From there the trolley goes anywhere. Other CG's you have to take your car. We didn't find the traffic to be outrageous but avoiding the car is good.We stayed in Site J. I think it's the best site at the KOA.

The kids loved the National Park. They all got their Junior Ranger Badge and want to visit other National Parks. We saw a bear in a tree in Cades Cove, which they liked. They loved the Aquarium. And they enjoyed everything else we did.

Thank-you so much everyone! It is a relief to hear that the campground DOES have fire pits - and if the weather is that warm the pool will be perfect. Sadly our summer up here has been terrible and we haven't had more than a handful of days where it was warm enough to swim!

We are also considering the KOA in Townsend for a few days. Or original plan was to hit Nashville as well but my research has lead me to believe we'll have plenty to do and see in this area and we won't need to leave!

The Aquarium is on our list and my daughter is thrilled to see a waterfall and will love the wildlife as well!

I looked at some of the photos on their website of their sites and I didn't see a firepit on any of them...

Edit: looked at some google pics and there are a few photos of pics saying they are Plantation River and there are some metal fire rings in them. Maybe just can't be seen in all pics or maybe some sites have them and some don't. Best to get the answer directly from them.
