AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH! We got "huddled" this week! We were camped between Yuma and Q almost 2 miles off the AZ 95. When we arrived Sunday morning, the first RV we passed was RVSue in her Casita closest to the highway. A quarter mile or so further along was a Class A and 5th Wheel parked together. Another quarter mile later there was a group of day campers with ATVs. We found our spot another quarter mile down the road and set up camp.

Come Monday, it was just RVSue, the group campers, and us. On Tuesday the Class A and Fiver left leaving just the 2 Casitas with about 1.25 miles between us. Wednesday morning I was on a hill watching a C-130 doing cargo drops across the highway when I saw a Class A turn onto the road and slowly make it's way East. . .and turn in to the spot where we were camped. They parked less than 200 FEET away from us! Hoping that they were just there for the night, and not wanting to move, we set tight. The next morning, (Thur) they left. In their toad! So, we moved a couple of hundred yards away. They pulled out early Friday morning. Unfortunately, we were also leaving Friday morning.

Below are pix of how empty the area was. The first is RVSue's Casita (small white dot under the shadowed area). The second and third shows the area between her and us (the TT arrived after our huddeler and is parked where the ATVers were when we arrived). The last pic is us on the left and the Class A to our right.

Are you saying that turbo charged CPAP machines maintain their pressure at high altitudes? :B

Maybe you should check in to the new turbo charged model CPAP. Mine just needs a larger BTU water heater for those 2 dog nights. :)

Hmmmm ... I wonder how I would do sleeping up that high. However, the CPAP unit I use every night just might give me enough of an oxygen boost to get by. The highest I've slept at was around only 10K feet when backpacking younger - no problem at that altitude.

Jefe, I figure that if I have to gasp while sleeping, I am too high up. The only time this happened to me was when we were skiing and staying at Brian Head, Utah, where the base lodge is at around 9600 feet. I had a heck of a time carrying the suitcases up a flight of stairs when we arrived straight from our sea level home. But after acclimating, no problem. Not sure I could deal with camping at 12,000 feet, though.

When we were camping in the San juans above 12000 ft. I just couldn't sleep as I kept gasping for air, so I got up to take a shower about 4AM (in September) and heard the water heater cycle on when I was in the shower. I was finishing up having washed everything and i heard THE LOUDEST NOISE i'd ever heard: a squeal-a schreek. It was the CO2 alarm. The book said to vacate the premisis if the thing goes of and call the fire department. None found. Meanwhile I was standing outside with just a down jacket on waiting for the squeal to stop.
We figured it was the water heater running way too rich on propane at that alt. that tripped the alarm.
Even my Honda 2K generator has 'jet kits' for different elevations:
0-4000 = stock jets
4K-6K feet = jets
7K-9K feet = high altitude jets.
I've never changed them even though I do have the whole set since the red box seems to muddle on no matter what.

The one he had was for inside a tent, and came with a low oxygen sensor to keep from asphyxiating you while you sleep. Most RV heaters are vented to the outside air, and shouldn't have that problem. As always, check your vents regularly for bird/wasp/mouse/rat nests plugging them up during the off season.

We use our furnace every trip and we are always above 9000 ft
