Favorite place to camp to avoid the heat in middle USA

Where is your favorite place to camp in the summer to avoid the heat? With a water feature; river, creek, lake etc. Thank you.

Vallecito, Pagosa Springs, Bayfield, Creede Colorado. May be all booked. We have the month of August reserved at Vallecito Resort. Blue Spruce RV park was all booked several months ago.

We stay most anywhere across the mountains of Arizona. Williams, Flagstaff, Showlow, Alpine etc. Dozens of high altitude locations where it generally has excellent weather in the 70's and 80's when Phoenix is 110-115.

The one we stay at is Fun Valley Family RV Resort. It is “Resort” for all the activities available, not because it is any kind of high end resort. It has a mile of the South Fork of the Rio Grande River running thru it where you can rent tubes to float down or bring your own tube or inflatable raft. Fishing in the river is catch/release. But they have numerous ponds stocked weekly with trout. Requires a resort fishing license. Paddleboats, bike rentals, miniature golf, regular golf outings to nearby courses, horseback riding, etc. They have a pretty nice buffet style restaurant, but it is closed due to the virus. They also have a SnackShack for burgers /hot dogs/pizza/shakes/etc. Normally have regular C&W dancing and street dances. But both are on hold due to the virus. They have a grocery store, fuel pumps, and laundry.

From the above it is obviously a busy place. Many people love it. But many don’t. Primarily due to lots of children due to being a family resort.

Get above 5,000 ft elevation, preferably above 6,000 ft and an area which supports trees.

That will not stop hot days from happening, but what you want is places that get cool at night.

Earlier this week near Dallas, the LOW was 81. It was 91 at midnight, 81 about 5:30 as the sun rose and 90 by 9:30 am. I can't hardly take those kinds of temps any longer when the days never get cool.

Yes, but there are other RV parks in the area along with numerous government campgrounds along rivers/streams and lakes if you want more remote sites with no hookups.
