Florida panhandle Camping

We spent 10 days at Henderson Beach State Park This April and loved it. My Question is, For next year should I try somewhere else or go back to Destin. It will be in mid to late April. We did drive over to Topsail and liked Henderson Beach better because of site space and privacy. Thanks for your thoughts.
  • RG St.Francois is 20 miles from our house and we go there often. They just put all of the electric sites on the reserve list. As for the highway noise at Henderson Beach, We were on site 47 and had no problem.
  • Henderson has nice sites and the beach is right there. Very hard combo to match! The downside is the traffic noise. I like all the parks mentioned for their various attributes. I would suggest reserving at Henderson for part of the time and spend one or two nights at other campgrounds listed to test the waters. Part of RVing is being adventurous IMHO.
  • Never camped in the panhandle, but our son and grand kids moved to Festus last year.We visited them in May and stayed at St Francois State park.Very nice place.
  • We've stayed at Big Lagoon SP twice now and loved it. It's within minutes of the Perdido Key where we had the beach to ourselves most days.
  • Thanks everyone-- Not sure what we will do but I was on the Henderson Beach Site and its filling up fast for April 2015.
  • Our favorites are St. Andrews State Park in Panama City and Fort Pickens in the National Seashore on Santa Rosa Island across from Pensacola.
  • The new loop at Grayton Bch has FHU and some sites have some of the privacy you seek. Best of all it is not as busy as the others. Other than no sewer hookups and murderous traffic in Destin Henderson Bch is hard to beat.
  • Blackwater River was a real hit with us several years ago. Loved the size of the site and the privacy! Beautiful surroundings too.
  • Although I have not personally been there but friends say that Gulf Shores State Park in Alabama is nice and has full hookups and reasonable. Good Luck and I will be following the post.

It's hard to beat Henderson Beach and we've stayed there several times but we also enjoy many other Florida state parks in the panhandle area. They each have their special charm! We loved Topsail, Blackwater River, and Grayton Beach too. A little farther south we also liked St. Joseph Peninsula, St. George Island, and Manatee Springs.

I suggest you try them all!
