Has anyone stayed at Fort Desoto Park Campground that could tell me if its a good place to stay for a day or 2?? I heard someone talking about it ,but they could not fill me in on the campground.. Are the sites large ? I see that they are water and electric..

If I want to take my kids fishing there , what would be the bait of choice for the fish you listed... I am an old flounder guy.... who uses the same hook and bait time in and time again

There at Christmas a few weeks ago. We loved it even though to cool to swim. Our type of park to kick back and just hang out. We have 36ft TT and no problems. We were on site 216 and had small beach behind our site. Could step out there to watch sunset.

204 is a fabulous site!!!

Our first time camping in Fort De Soto was last year. Did use the beach many years ago when staying in a condo in the area. We are back this year for almost 2 weeks. The spaces are generous and for the most part private. Lots to do in the park or just take it easy. Only a few miles away you have wonderful kitchy touristy St. Petes Beach. The only thing that would make it better, for my own personal preference, is a heated pool. LOL!

We enjoyed our trip there although it was raining about 1/2 the time ( not their fault of course ). Nice CG. Cons are traffic and tolls to get to / from CG.

We had to leave one day early and they refunded the one night stay even though their website says no refunds that late. No, we did not demand the refund or even ask for it. Nice gesture!

We've stayed there several times and love it. Get one of the sites that backs up to the water. They're much nicer than the interior sites. The park website has photos of every site and all of the other information that you might need.

some sites there are way better than others for space. One section is for pets only. I have never stayed there but have been there visiting friends there. Many sites back right up to the bay.....beautiful area but pricey...can you say Florida, the beach and jack prices up.

Awesome campground. Yes, most sites are back-ins, but you're backing onto the water. I enjoy backing, so I didn't mind.

Large, private sites. Windy, though. Mind your awning(s).

Many of the sites are on the Gulf. There are lots of low trees so you have to be careful backing in. Very hard to get a site as they are booked quickly by county residents. A toll bridge to get on/off the island gets expensive. Great place to stay a few days. One of the best beaches by the fort.

Some of the CG has smaller sites and trees that make back ins difficult. I believe the county website gives that information out along with a photo of the sites. I have been there a couple of times and it is not a favorite of mine. Others appear to like it better than I did. A couple of days would be all you need IMO.
