Geocaching Florida State Star

We are planning on caching the Florida State Star. I am wondering if anyone here has done this and if so what rv parks did they find near this area. The closest that I find is a KOA in Starke. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated !! Thanks !
  • Understand the desire to do the GeoArt. Some of them are very cool.

For the muggles (non-cachers), the OP is referring to a series of caches that make a symbol on the map when completed. This one requires 51 caches to complete the symbol of a star. Some out west were there is more unused space are extremely complex. There is one in California that maps out the shape of an RV.

I've been through the area years ago and recently did some research for the general area. Haven't visited any of these, but they all made my list of possible stops. About 10 miles eastward is Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park. If you are retired military, there is also Camp Blanding available.

Westward a few miles is Ocean Pond in Osceola NF.Ocean Pond in Osceola NF. If you don't care about access to town, this may actually be a better location as you won't have to deal with any traffic. Also depends on exactly where the caches are located.

Good luck and have fun. I'm still one cache away from completing my first GeoArt.

Yes we belong to geocaching.com. We do it recreationaly not avidly...about 560 now. I use the smart phone to locate some when we are out sometimes and then days that we make a day of it I load them into my gps. Great hobby, and great to get you out and moving !!

Trixie 47, I like to geocache in the forest and at the ocean the best than the desert, like you said great hobby.
    have fun, Jay

Hi--- what is the "Florida State Star" ?

The Florida State Star is a geocaching series. Geocaching is a treasure hunt you do with a gps or smart phone, to locate hidden treasures. Each state is going to have one. We are planning on doing the Georgia state star and then stopping on our way back home and doing the Florida state star. The closest campground that I find is like 25 miles or so away. Just wondering if anyone else had done this and if so where did they camp. Thanks !

    Thanks !
