Goosenecks SP, Utah

I was there this past December.

It is still a pay park, complete with day use and overnight fees.

There are tables, fire rings and pit toilets. I did not see any water or other improvements.

The sites were loosely defined, more or less by the table and firepit.

The pavement, if you can call it that, is EXTREMELY rough and full of large sharp-edged rocks, not just smoothed over stones.

I was ready to spend a night there, but got creeped out by a father-daughter team selling jewelry. They had themselves setup behind the outhouse building, so you couldn't see them until you were in the parking lot, and then they came over with the high pressure sales.

It was something like $5 or $10 a night last fall. The guy in the booth was only there certain days for certain hours, after that it was one of the pay box things. Campsites were pretty much anywhere, to the right was tent sites, to the left campers. Some way off down the ridge, most close to the parking lot. As mentioned, the dirt road was pretty rough, which may have been why most folks parked nearer the parking lot.

We love boondocking and some folks rave about Gooseneck but for the life of me we couldn't see the attraction. Yes, the river is there but....

Yup, Utah made it an official state park and charge for the use of it. There are designated RV campsites on the left road (I use the term "road" loosely.

Thanks folks, pretty well sounds the same except they want $ now.Just might stay one night while I check out Muley point as we want to camp there during the upcoming full moon. Also want to drive Johns Cny and Goosenecks is close so I can use my Polaris.

We pulled in, set up, wandered the edge, enjoyed the view, have lunch and started to feel uncomfortable about the high winds, so we collapsed our folding trailer, and high tailed it out of the there. It was our shortest CG stay ever :-) It is pretty cool, but an odd place.

Yes winds can be a problem in that area. That's what I'm worried about up on Muley point, the wind always blows up there.

I'm not sure the Goosenecks area is worth more than a couple of nights, but it sure is a great place if you want to feel like an insignificant dot in a huge landscape (and who doesn't enjoy that feeling??). That's my trailer on the edge of the cliff on a cold and windy afternoon in late October of 2010 -- we were camped way out on the peninsula, maybe half a mile from the campground -- that is Monument Valley in the far distance.
