Got gamed Westmoreland State Park in Va- Response

I recieved the below response from Westmoreland State Park concerning my reservation issue.

I apologize for the inconvenience that you had with the campground reservation system at Westmoreland State Park. Sometimes a guest has rent a number of sites and, of course, they all want to camp together. The first one to arrive will take all of the site markers and place them on the desired sites. Park staff only knows that the reservations are for that day and not the actual arrival dates of the other campers. Therefore some sites might remain vacant even though they have been tagged as occupied.
Starting next year, most of the water and electric sites will be able to be as site specific. This means that if there is a site that you like or need, you will be able to rent that site, if it is available, and be able to occupy that site upon your arrival.
I apologize again for the issue on your last visit. Hope this helps to explain things better. We look forward to having you camp with us again.

I find it interesting/strange/peculiar that the original thread was closed due to being beat to death.
When actually there were people still discussing the thread.
What is the criteria for a beat to death thread? Is it beat to death when someone post a cartoon character? What is the limit on discussion?
Do we need to conserve bandwidth to allow for more diesel vs. gas threads. Or more WAl-Mart threads? Are the inmates now running the asylum.
Since the original thread was closed I am forced to post a new one with the conclusion.
So now there are 2 threads vs. one which does not help with the continuity of the discussion.
I never actually wrote VA parks a letter but I sent them a link to the original thread. By reading the link the VA Parks people were able to read the full discussion and benefit from the various opinions on the policy.
I believe letting them read all of the various unsolicited opinions first hand is more beneficial to the park staff vs. sending in a letter.
In the end I am grateful to the VA staff for taking the time to respond to my rant. I am also appreciative that VA parks appear to be changing their non site specific reservation policy as well.
I would hope that in the future RV.net personnel would refrain from closing active civil threads. As long as the discussion is civil why put limits on it. For those that feel a thread has run its course don't respond and the thread will fade away. All threads die a natural death if you let them.
Despite the dead horse claim this thread may have actually been beneficial in shaping/changing the reservation policy for the benefit of all.

As the Moderator of this forum, once I determine that it is time to close a thread for whatever reason, that is my prerogative.
Once I close a thread, I expect that the OP will respect that and not bring up the issue again.

Please do yourself a favor and read the Rules of the Forum:

Attacks on moderators will not be tolerated and may result in an immediate ban. Moderators have to make difficult judgment calls, but remember, they are human. If you have a concern about a particular moderator or treatment of a post by a moderator, email websitesupport@goodsam.com.

We reserve the right to remove any post at any time for any reason.
You may post about problems you have with a product or organization, however the use of the forums to repeatedly attack them is strictly forbidden.

Double posts are not permitted.

And, yes, there were posts deleted from this thread that broke the following rule:

Flaming" of other participants is strictly forbidden. Professional conduct and respectful behavior towards other members and moderators is a primary requirement for participation on the Open Roads Forum.

Thread Closed.

Having moderated another RVing forum- this happens a LOT. Typically the moderators put in hard work cleaning up a thread and ultimately close it. When you look back, it seems unreasonable.

I'd rather get kicked in the nuts twice daily than ever moderate an RV forum again. It's babysitting grown adults!

Depends on WHO gets tired of reading a thread. :R

IMHO, as long as the thread is civil and not violating forum policies, those who get tired of reading a thread should UNSUBSCRIBE instead of whining for a moderator to "Close the thread"

The "exception" I would support is if the OP requests their thread be closed. It's their prerogative since they started the thread.

But we all can guess how much weight "opinions" carry...as was mentioned above, the board and its members exist at the pleasure and mercy of the mods.

I do believe that some moderators are a little trigger happy but it's their ball park and their bat so we have to put up with it! :R
