I would like to know if anyone knows what the maximum length motor home the Mathers Campground (Dry camp) at the Grand Canyon can take. I have a 40ft d/p. They are closed until 01 March
We also drove the CG in our truck since we have found that if a CG says 30' max, we can get our 35' 5er into a site somewhere, most of the time.
For Mather don't even think about it. The access road was narrow even for our dually. Really nice CG, unlike the trailer village, but it is the territory of the tenter, the class B & the mid sized C. Yes, you can get a 30' TT in some of the sites but you had better bring some good driving skills with you.
I drove the Campground INSIDE the park back in 2006 in my car (not my motor home) when they say 30 feet max.. they are NOT kidding, They mean 30 feet if you are a highly skilled driver.
There are, however, several private parks about 10 yards (or so it seemed) OUTSIDE the park... To the south.. You will find them more accomidating to big rigs such as mine (and yours)
NOTE: IF you are a Senior, or otherwise qualify for a Federal "Discount" card.
The Senior card costs 10 bucks, Admission for one car WITHOUT the pass is more than 10 dollars.
Admission for a car containing a senior with a pass.. IS FREE.
I assume this applies to all the Federal inter-agency passes.. But alas, I only qualified for the one. The result.. You save money the very first time you use it.
When my wife got her pass they sold 'em at the gate.. I'm not sure they still do so get it before you arrive If you qualify.
You're 40' definitely will not fit in Mather. There's another dry campground in the park called Desert View. You won't fit there either. Trailer Village RV in the park is the one for you.
If you want to dry camp, just outside the park is 10X national forest campground. You'd fit there even though it says 35'. We used it with our 40' motorhome. Try for a backin...they have more depth.
