Any feedback on this area & places to stay there for 55+? We are curious as to how people compare this area to Yuma or Gold Canyon for places to stay and activities. Thanks!
DeAnza has a pool and clubhouse with meals served. It has 'clubhouse-type' activities. If you have a ATV there are rides going out of the park. Some rallies are held there and the park is pretty filled during the winter months. They are now starting to add Park Model trailers to a separate section.
Green Valley RV Resort is the obvious choice if you want to be in Green Valley...and the only choice. When we stopped full-timing we chose Green Valley as the place to live. It is quiet and peaceful. We bought a small house but the RV park is great and has lots of activities. You are close to many recreational opportunities and close to Tucson when you want the big city.
We have lived in Sahuarita - which is adjacent to Green Valley for 13 years; and are, obviously, RVer's. As you probably know GV is about 25 miles south of Tucson so if you are looking for activities you might think about staying up there.
There is a park in GV but space is limited. However, I would highly recommend De Anza down by Amado. Nice park. Downside is that it is another 20 miles from Tucson. And not too much for activities outside the park without driving a ways. This is also true of Green Valley; Titan Missile Museum and a very few other things. One, though, that we LOVE is Madera Canyon up in the Santa Ritas - not a long drive (20 minutes)from G V - hiking, birding if you are in to it, picnic, walks, photo.....
My parents lived in GV for about 10 years (year-round) and loved it. No experience with the other locations you mentioned, so I can't compare them, but they - and we kids, from our visits there - have fond memories of the place. Several senior centers in town with facilities like pools, exercise equipment, clubs for rockhounds & jewelry making, etc.), beautiful outdoor areas like Madera Canyon nearby, great winter weather, summer too hot but still cooler than Tucson or certainly Phoenix, within a day's drive of interesting historical sites, etc. My parents' main complaints were trouble finding parking spots at stores, banks, etc. in the winter (due to all the snowbirds) and "all the old people in town." (Um, Daddy, you are one too. :) )
We winter in GV and have for the last several years, however we own a house there and do not stay in our RV. There are two RV Parks in the area, DeAnza and Green Valley RV Park. Other options would be in the Tucson area including the Pima County Fairgrounds which is nice for a shorter stay, and The Voyager if you are looking for a full service park with a lot of amenities. We have many friends who winter in the Voyager and have had friends passing through stay at the fairgrounds.
We love Green Valley and would be happy to answer any further questions.
Stayed at De Anza RV Resort in Amado, which is just South of Green Valley, in 2013 & 2014.
Beautiful country with views of the mountains. Located just south of Tucson and minutes from historic Tubac Village & Madera Canyon where there are hiking trails, ATV riding and world-class Birding.
We've stayed in Yuma and Gold Canyon...to busy for us. :)
