Greenbrier Campground

Staying At Greenbrier Campground in the smokey mountain area, any comments, anyone been there?
  • The swimming hole was a hoot for my gran kids they even have a tent area on a island yes you have to hoof it to it to get to it no driving LOL
  • If you're into hiking, you are very close to Ramsey cascades. It's a nice waterfall hike. I started at daylight and had the falls to myself for a couple hours before anyone else started showing up. It is pretty strenuous toward the end if you're not used to hiking but nothing too bad if you're in decent shape.
  • Have stayed there twice under the new management. We have 4 days scheduled for Sept. and another over Memorial Day of 18. Great folks. It is very much like old time camping. They have a swimming hole instead of a pool. Gravel roads and gravel parking spots for all sites. 99 full hookup sites, 30 or 50 Amp power at all sites. The campground is across the road from the Smoky Mountain National Park via a side road. Staff is very nice and the camp host is available and friendly. We had good AT&T cell service there and WIFI is fair also.
  • We will be staying at Greenbrier Campground the 9th of August for a week. Will post after stay.

I never stayed there but have reservations for end of October. We picked it as a midpoint of a two week trip that will mostly be dry camping. This will be where we wash clothes and restock the fridge. Let me know how it turns out.
  • Years ago, we stayed there once or twice every summer as our kids grew up. This is one of the few campgrounds around the Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg area that I would consider a "campground" and not an RV park. The owners were elderly, and over the years the campground began to run down and become home to quite a few transient workers that brought a lot of problems in with them. The last couple times we stayed the police and EMS were there several times a week.

HOWEVER, after mourning the downfall of this campground for a number of years and not visiting the area at all for a few years, we drove by there early this past spring and noticed a new sign out on the highway. We thought, "What the heck, we'll take a look". It was a Sunday and the gates were closed but it was obvious that the place had been overhauled. We got home and checked it out on the 'net, and found that the campground had been open under new management for the last year or so and had been heavily overhauled, including a new bathhouse. Unfortunately, we drove by the weekend just prior to it opening for the year.

LOTS of good memories here - room for the kids to play, swimming hole at the lower end, tubing on the creek/river when the water is high enough, shade, and most of the spaces are roomy.

It is a little ways out of town, but we always drove a few minutes down towards Gatlinburg to the police station which was also a main trolley stop, and got on the trolley to head to town. (I THINK you can still do this, after the fires tore through that area, but am not positive.) Better than wagging our big pickup through town and trying to find a place to park it once there. You can also go "the back way" by turning north out of the campground to reach the Sevierville / Pigeon Forge area.

Rates were really reasonable back then too, especially compared to the other options in the area. I think they have gone up on the prices some, but all that work comes with a price tag, so I understand. Pretty sure they have a website as well as a Facebook page to check things out on.

We really liked this campground, and now due to the change of ownership and upkeep we hope to be able to take our grandkids for a visit soon. When are you staying? I would REALLY appreciate a post here, or even a PM, to see what you thought of the place.

    Safe travels,
    Regan
