Why do you have to continue stating this nonsense?

It is important to remember that the reason bear attacks make the news is that they are so incredibly rare. The statistics are kind of hard to decipher, but Yellowstone is a good case study, where they explain the chances of a bear attack while backcountry camping are about 1 in 1,700,000. In the 150 years that Yellowstone has been around their have been 8 bear fatalities, out of how many tens or hundreds of million visitors? Far more people have died from traffic accidents and falling in geothermal features.

Yes you should be smart about camping in bear country, and this woman's death is tragic. But having spent hundreds of nights in tents in the northern rockies, you also need to realize that the drive to the trailhead is likely more dangerous than your hike.

Large Groups of people are safer than a lone person and the smell of cooking and cooked foods get onto campers clothing even if food is cached a long distance from campsite. Necessary to take many different cautions when in serious bear country.

They shot the predator at night using night vision when he or she returned to the area and a baited bear trap.

Boon Docker you jumped to wrong conclusion and missed my point that there is always those who jumps to the bears defense regardless of the horrific circumstances of the attack on humans. They always say bears are a part of nature and have a right to be everywhere and do what they want and I say we humans are also a part of nature and have a right to enjoy the great outdoors in relative safety. I happen to love black bears but not the super deadly grizzlies.

Yes, the news article noted that they were first all awakened by the bear and after they scared it off, they moved food out of their tents, then went back to bed. But it came back.
