Heading to Louisiana, and maybe somewhere on the beach east or west where snorkeling is good, if anybody knows of good spots whit hookup nearby.

The water in Louisiana is muddy because of the Mississippi. Clear water is about 15-20 miles out. If you want to snorkel you need to go east of the Mississippi. Gulf Shores and Destin. I will be going to St Joseph SP for the first time this summer and looks like it would be a good place to snorkel.

Cold water to a Canadian is quite different to cold water for a Louisianan!

Years ago I would tent camp at Grand Isle State Park. 49 sites with hookups for less than $30/night. It's a barrier island. There is a great shallow water bay inside the state park where I would wade and catch blue crabs with dip net. I haven't been since Katrina or any of the other hurricanes of the last couple decades but hope to go back this summer.

When I camped there in '92, there was a family that had biked and camped from the Canadian border to Grand Isle State park, chosen because it was at the end of Hwy 1 on the gulf.

Coming from Canada, through Michigan. 11 below freezing, 25 mph winds. About 10 fahrenheit with the windchill.

How cold is the water? I went through record snow and cold over the last 6 months. I can wait till the sharks leave

Louisiana Native here - great place to fish, not so much snorkeling. To be safe on having nice clear water, I'd head east to at least Gulf Shores, AL. Which direction are you coming from? Water still cold too, at least by Gulf Coast standards.

La is having a shark swarm now as they move north for the summer. The water is clearer east of Mobile Bay.
