Harvest Hosts - Our first experience

We left the Rochester area for Michigan. Not planning to drive 10 hours straight, we planned an overnight. We ended up just over into Michigan at a host that was part of a Harvest Host. It was our first experience with Harvest Hosts and it was so much fun. The owners of the Farm/orchard were so welcoming. They took us from the parking lot on a tractor to the various areas we had choices to stay in. We chose an area in a mowed field by the pond. Other than one tree with a low branch (pine tree), we made it through to the pond. We did purchase a few items from the farm market, as suggested by HH. The hosts invited us to drop our fifth wheel and tour the nearby town for the day and come back to sleep. It was a great time. Anyone who would like someplace other than a Walmart to overnight in, should check it out.
  • Thanks for the input. I am going to give it a whirl this fall on our Wild West 2013 trip. Great idea!
  • Glad to hear the post- I thought the HH members were sworn to secrecy as you see so few reviews of it. :)
  • There is a lot of information on the Harvest Host site and you can pinpoint the area of the hosts within each state and province. However, you cannot pinpoint the exact name and address without joining. If you camp a couple of times a year, it probably is not what you are looking for but for those who travel long distances and often, it may be an option for you. We spent the 40 bucks to see what it is all about and will use it again. Sometimes it may be what you need vs Walmart or when you are having trouble finding a campground or it is full.
