We are in a fl state park in the keys. Daughter SNL and grandson came in today in a rental 25footer. They were trying to get the 3 year. old to sleep in a strange bed /place , never camped before, so they are running the ac fan for white noise. Anyway, to get to the point, the neighbors came over with an attitude and asked them to cut their ac off because they were sleeping with the windows open and it was bothering them. My daughter came over ( we are on the other side ) and asked me if that was normal. I went over and listened to the ac, no clanging,no rattling fan, just a roof ac doing its thing, not quiet but none are.

I told them to run it if they want to and screw the neighbors. They can close the windows on that side or cut their own fan on ( I am sure it is much quieter ). Told her if they came back to send them to see me.

Opinions?

For the person who was curious, not that it matters much ..they had Canadian tags and flying swiss flag. SNL said they had very heavy accents and he was guessing swiss.

Funny thing is they left the next day. Also, BTW daughter did turn off ac after gs went to sleep.

I guess I'll go against the flow here. If the outside temp is what the A/C would be set at it stays off. I've never been a fan of avoidable noise, whether it be gennys run for hours on end or diesels idling for 10,15,30 minutes in the morning. Noisy A/Cs can be annoying too, especially if it is the only one being used as the outside temp makes it redundant.

Running it to cater to a child? No. Not happening. Never did it to cater to ours. They learned to sleep in different & noisy enviroments from day 1. Lucky them. As adults now they can sleep anywhere.

Well, there you go. There is more than one with the "my way or the wrong way" attitude.

Only once have I heard an A/C so noisy it was impossible to sit outside and talk! it was the rear unit on a Class A. the neighbors were running it full blast (fortunately they left 2 days after we arrived). it sounded as if the fan blade for the condenser was hitting the shroud! it was so loud everyone around us complained about it. they just didn`t get it, and people did say something. I was ready to go over and trip the breaker at the pedestal, except I was worried the generator may have been louder. BTW, this unit was only a few years old!

I wouldn't be as harsh :B, but that would be my attitude toward this also.

unreasonable request from them. I sure would not be turning mine off at all.

I'm surprised that the neighbors aren't bothered by the loud waves lapping on the sand. :B

If I thought the neighbor was noisy, I would simply close my windows and run my own roof air. ๐Ÿ™‚ Same thing I have to do when someone sets up a smoking lounge next to me.

Cardinal rule when camping. If you're wrong, apologize and forget it. If you're not wrong, just forget it. Some folks just aren't happy until they're telling somebody else what to do. Sounds like those folks need to pick a different hobby. I bet their neighbors at home are glad they're on the road.

Well I suppose the heavy breathing and snoring from next door didn't help the child sleep either and you couldn't even keep your windows open because of it.The story as told just shows the lack of humanity some have.Silly,silly.

Dunno about anybody else's rigs, but my TT's AC can barely be heard outside the trailer. INSIDE the trailer is another matter. But one thing's for sure: a crying baby is a darn sight louder than the AC fan, inside or outside.

I think I would have pointed out to the neighbor that the reason for running the AC fan was to keep THEIR racket from making the baby cry. Their choice: a little white noise from the fan or the crying baby. My guess is that the fan would be less disturbing.

I have gotten dirty looks from neighbors when I use my hatchet to chop up firewood. Some people just like to complain.
