Hi, in late August, we want to meet 2 friends and visit Manhattan together. We will be with our (small) RV, they will fly in to Newark and need a bed and shower to stay. Where can we stay at one...

You're welcome Sir. I stayed there once and it was really nice. But like you say it is kind of far out. I know you want to stay on the outskirts but might I suggest Liberty Harbor.. When I go to the city I stay there. Like the others say above, it's just a parking lot but you don't waste much time commuting.
Maybe you can take a look at Black Bear located in Florida, NY or Croton Point Park in Croton-on-the-Hudson, NY
Dirt is expensive up there so CG's are few and far between
