how hard to find rv hauler?

We plan to leave our trailer in covered storage in south Texas for the summers. The Campground is in Pharr and the storage lot is in Harlingen. Is it difficult to get someone to haul our RV in and out of storage for the winter season?

Once again under the assumption of the question being for the Valley, the short answer is yes.

The mantra down there is "Mex-I-Can." The trick for you is to realize just because a person can do something, doesn't mean that they "should" do it (i.e. lack of training, insurance, experience, lack of citizenship...).

I was asking more for a family member (FIL)... they have a good-sized class A motor home, and he's about 80. Driving it back and forth from Lake Havesu to WA state is getting to be a bit much. Saw this thread about RV haulers, and figured it'd be worth asking. Pretty sure I wouldn't be going with anyone not bonded and insured, personally.
  • Is not hard IF you know several "someone's" in the CG. I'd do it for a 30 pack & a steak dinner, if I was closer. Then the next year, just a thank you might work.
But I'll be 150 miles away.

I'm sure you can find a way to get it moved for you. Keeping it covered is very smart and leaving it there will save on wear and tare of taking it back and forth.

That’s pretty cheap for towing. My buddy in Myrtle Beach had his 5th wheel towed from just outside Atlanta to Myrtle Beach two years ago for $800. When he was shopping for a hauler they all quoted based upon returning without a back-haul. It was essentially $2/mile.

Guessing you haven't spent much time in the Valley. I would have mine pulled by a 1 ton dually 50 miles for $100. $50 hookup & .50/mile. If you get a flat the clock keeps ticking $ though.

The storage places should have names of people who will pull. Most of their clientele will be snowbirds who drive down. The real trick is to find a storage place that is safe, clean (no mice or roaches), keeps an eye on the rigs, and doesn't turn into a mud hole when you're gone.

The other problem is the good ones will charge you if you're there or not. There is normally a waiting list to get into covered storage and it's first come first serve.

  • The place you're storing the rig should have a few names of people who will do this for you. Once you get settled you'll find others who will do it also through word of mouth from neighbors.

If you want your rig to look good, covered storage is the way to go in southern TX. They do have flooding, so make sure you're not in low lands.
