How much rent should i pay?

I get 24 feet in a secured, gated, resident on duty storage lot, in Los Angeles county, for $720 for 12 months, and the 13th month is free if the year is paid in full. That also entitles me to their campground 2x a month over night, with full hook ups. About $54 a month. Los Angeles county land isn't exactly cheap.

As Dave in Lincoln said, do NOT check local zoning laws. Pay $75/mo, $100 if you want to be nice, and set up camp. If the proper authorities tell you to move, move.

As others have said, $300-$400/month rent with full hookups is fairly common in the winter season. I would check nearby CGs for deals. Out in the boonies with no power and trucking in water, you will never live as cheaply as $400/mo BEFORE rent.

Sounds like you could stay 30 days, hookup and pull out for a day and dump, shop, fool around town, and come back another 30 days ... :) :)
For me, that setup would be worth a hundred a month or so.

Nope --- Deschutes county says you can only stay 30 days and have to leave for 30 days. :) BUT, if you buy a "building permit" for $800, you can live on the lot forever and never build on it......just renew for a nominal fee every year. Go figure. My SIL was going to buy a lot and put a trailer on it and stay the summers. The rules prompted her to forget buying!!

What's the land worth? $100 per acre or $3,000,000 per acre?

Land value is what detemines rent. For access to and use of a 1/4 acre lot, $20 a month could be fair, or $5000 a month could be too little. But if the land remains undeveloped, not likely to be near the upper end of ths scale.

Call around to trailer parks and see what they charge.

100 bucks a month. I would not check laws if they tell you to move hook up and move on. With no hookups no big deal.

No Franscesa - not the whole thread, and I never push anything like that anyway. Sometimes, folks just say things that need an education about that point. And if no one comments, it festers as if a truth.

I did say, "One time" ... and will not comment again about that specific issue. I was afraid the Mods would consider that a 'political post' (Poof) because it pertains to laws and those who make them -- you never know how one perceives it and another doesn't. But I do get annoyed when one person says they have the right to tell me what to do on my property, and fades that comment behind 'general zoning' ... And do stand behind the idea that laws and enforcement would be unnecessary if everyone agreed with a specific behavior, zoning or any other laws. But we don't, and some people take advantage of that.

One time, for the sake of purity here: You have no rights on my property, my property once was mine, now it's only mine if I obey your laws, even if I don't agree with them, is that what your saying. Doesn't work that way ... and you contradict yourself - punishment occurs if one disobeys a law ... so it is punishment, that's the only way we enforce law.


If the laws passed were truly in everyone's best interest, we'd not need a badge and gun to enforce them, they'd enforce themselves because everyone would agree with them. Not starting a war here, but just because you say it doesn't make it right. And, just because it's law now, doesn't mean that law is right either, we change stupid laws all the time, once we realize (some,not all) are stupid ... that's why we have a constitution.

I/m sure zoning is different in different places. And I agree completely you should check the zoning ordinances, even if the acreage is zoned agricultural.

I live in an area that's zoned agricultural. But in order to have 'farm' animals, you need a minimum of 4 acres. There is also a zoning ordinance that says a maximum of 2 RV on the property. And it also says the RV cannot be used for a permanent dwelling place, since the property is "single family dwelling" and a permanent RV would then make the property a "multiple family dwelling."

So check before jumping in. YOU will not get into trouble, but your "landlord" may and then she'd have the embarrassment to have to tell you to move.

By the way $75 - $100 sounds about right. But prices may vary state-to-state!
