Howard County, MD - big rig friendly local camping?

I've camped at Ramblin' Pines and Jellystone in Hagerstown, but they're expensive and I'm looking for somewhere inexpensive to go for a quick weekend here or there.

The options that I know of are:
- Patapsco State Park
- Little Bennett Campground
- Greenbelt National Park
- Cherry Hill
- Kapitol KOA

The latter 2 are just as expensive. Greenbelt NP doesn't have electric hookups and my battery is already questionable. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Patapsco and Little Bennett seem to cater to smaller campers. Has anyone camped at either of them in a bigger rig? My fifth wheel is 42'. I don't mind shoe-horning it onto a site, I just want to make sure I'm not going to get stuck.

Thoughts? Other ideas?

When we lived in MD (Greenbelt) we often camped in Tuckahoe, Assateague, and Point Lookout over the fall/winter months. Tuckahoe closes end of Nov., Assateague has no hook-ups, but Point Lookout has FHU and is open all year. It is wonderfully empty during the winter months, as is Assateague.

Patapsco State park is your best bet. They have a couple of spots that you could fit in if you don't mind 30 amps.
Otherwise thousand trails will be your best bet. Catactin state park in Thurmont, MD. Is decent but it is too far to consider local.
The other local places KOA, Duncan, Ramblin Pines will be too expensive to meet your budget.
Patapsco is your cheapest alternative, but sites that fit your rig are limited

We use Gifford Pinchot State Park. It is a PA state park south of Harrisburg. Very nice park. one of the cheapest around here.

Check this list of MD Campgrounds. Doubtful you are going to find full hookup sites for $30.00 in MD.

$30-$35 for electric hookups. I'm okay without water and sewer for a weekend. ๐Ÿ˜„ I just want somewhere close by to go for a weekend without breaking the bank.

Nice thought, but I think you are out of luck on this Big Guy. I've been to most of them and don't ever remember paying that little for a site with electric.

Yeah, that seems to be what I'm finding. The problem is, by the time I pay $40/night (or more) - I can just drive up to PA to a Thousand Trails park for the same price. Plus, if I was finding something really close to Columbia- I was thinking that if we still had activities in town, we could just drive back and forth.

How far would Elk Neck State Park be in Cecil County? They have both full and elec& water sites

About 80 miles for me. Works out to 160 miles round trip and about $60 in fuel. Problem also is- they seem to have pretty limited sites for 40' and electric. In fact, looks like just 1 at 45' and 60 at 40'.

I dunno, guess I'm looking for a snipe.

My BIL lives in Laurel, MD and goes to Codorus State Park near Hanover, PA for weekend camping. Don't know the cost, but they do have electric.

We live in Columbia area. Brunswick Family Campground on the Potomac River is not to everyone's liking. We camp there frequently because we kayak and fish often. 1 hour drive.River and Trail Outfitters manage the site now.
On the C & O Canal as well so the bike/walking path is right there. You go over train tracks and travel along a gravel road for about a 1/2 mile to reach the CG. Its 38.00 with tax I believe, have seen big rigs there.Bring ear plugs if your sleep is easily disturbed.

Good luck.

Hmm, Little Bennett is still like mid-$40/night. I'm really hoping to find something in the low $30s. I am going to have to look harder at Patapsco but they only have two 40' sites and both seem unavailable.
