Ideas for first trip

We should be finalizing our DP purchase within the week and therefore will want to take a small trip. We live in Puyallup, Wa and can be gone for 9 days. Basically looking for a nice campground and kid friendly for our 9 yr old and maybe near a national park.

Thanks
  • I would head South, with Lake Tahoe as a goal. Depending on what your family interests are, and the availability of sites (check on www.rvparkreviews.com), maybe go down the Oregon to the Redwoods, and cut across at Redding. I would figure 3 days in each direction, and 3 days at Tahoe! Second choice, would be stay closer to home, explore Crater Lake and Mt Ranier.

Driveway camping will happen more than once;)
Especially if you're on the outs with Herself. :R
  • Just my thoughts but 9 days seems kind of long for your first trip.
I had rather come home wanting to stay longer than to come home burned out from to long a trip.
Just think starting out slow and learning is a wise idea.
  • Wow now that's some good ideas! Thanks Kathy.

1st trip... 9 days with a 9 year old... In Washington State.
Head for Winthrop, WA. via Moses Lake (stop at Dry Falls info center)
Grand Coulee Dam has a neat laser show at night.
Bridgeport has cool carvings down it's main street. (and a nice city cg)
Past Pateros and north to the Methow Valley.
There's a Good Sam park between Twisp and Winthrop.
There's a nice WA state park near Winthrop.
Tour the NORTH CASCADES Smoke Jumper base between Twisp and Winthrop.
    Have ice cream in Winthrop.
Drive up to the top of Washington Pass on hwy 20... and keep going
but first, maybe Drive over to Chelan and take an airplane tour of the North Cascades.

Do all of that... and you'll just have time to get back home before your 9 days are up.

  • If this is your first trip the consensus is to camp in your driveway for the first night or two.
