Is anyone up in Vermont this week?

Those campgrounds that are open at least a few days after Columbus Day (Monday) won't be full during the week. That includes a handful of the state parks. If you can come up not on the weekend it's a lot less crowded. I'm planning to head out on Monday night and camping in one of the state parks, as much as anything because they have a dump station and it's cheaper to camp overnight and dump than it is to pay to use the dump station without camping.

The Williston Wal-Mart does generally permit RVs to overnight in the parking lot. There were three or four apparently settling in for the night this evening. Maybe the Rutland one does as well; I don't know for sure. I think West Lebanon, just across the river in New Hampshire, also permits overnighting.

I had family near Rutland and stayed with them during peak leaf season about 20 years ago. Went during honeymoon 17 years ago. I’d love to take the fifth wheel up to Vermont during peak season but I have a feeling campgrounds are filled up? Any other suggestions where to park?

Thanks everyone, we get up by Lake Dunmore every few years, and Jay Peak once in a while. I love waking up in Vermont early and taking my coffee outside on the porch wearing a hooded sweatshirt, and then Warming up just enough by 8 or 9 AM that I takeoff my sweatshirt.

I am in Vermont this week, and indeed most every week. I'm fortunate enough to live here (up towards Lake Champlain and Burlington area).

It is a beautiful part of the country. It's been rather rainy the past couple days and will be a couple more days, but the weekend is looking like it will be pretty nice for you. The leaves around here are just starting to think about turning some; it may be a little further along in the Northeast Kingdom. As it's Columbus Day weekend, it will be rather busy most everywhere.

If you are in the general area, exploring Smuggler's Notch can be a good time; there are some nice hikes (some pretty gentle) up in the state park, and the drive through the notch is lovely...but not at all suitable for an RV.

My condolences to you and your family on your father-in-law's passing. We haven't been to northern VT in several years, but it's a beautiful part of the country. We regularly stay on a friend's farm in southern VT though.

We were up there two weeks ago. VT has more dirt roads then paved. We had no cell service for five days. The house where we stayed had a land line that we never used. The people are laid back and friendly and the scenery is great. Good place to get away and relax.
