Labor Day Camping near Lake Tahoe: anything available?

I'm looking for recommendations for rv camping over labor day near Lake Tahoe or in Northern CA. We've relocated and are looking for somewhere fun and new to explore but are late to the game. We have a 24 foot travel trailer and are fine with or without hookups. Thanks for any leads on places that would be good and have availability at this point.
  • I live 1/2 hour from Lake Tahoe and avoid it all costs on holiday weekends.
Try some nearby NFs and might be able to find a site.
  • For a reservation park you just have to start calling to see if there are openings.

For a no-reservation place get there early... a day or two before the big rush.

No one can really tell you if there are sites open. :) Good luck!
  • Look specifically at Sardine campground. It's near Bassett's Station on Hwy 49. Lots of lakes in the area to check out and trails. And the diner at Bassett's Station makes the BEST milkshakes when you want a treat.
  • We're on the same boat. Gave up on week-ends and holiday for Lake Tahoe camgrounds.

Or my choice is an OP (overnight parking) in town that allow RV. Just not my cup of tea.
  • Look at Plumas, Tahoe and ElDorado National forests on recreation.gov. No hookups, but right now it looks like there is still availability for Friday-Monday of the holiday weekend as well as some first come first serve sites.
