Lees Ferry Campground near Page AZ.

I checked out Rvparksreview and the reviews seemed odd and old. Does anyone have any update info. This place looks interesting to me. Just want to use it as a one night stop over.

X 2 about seeing the rafts ready to launch. Lee's Ferry is the end point for the Colorado River Discovery raft trip out of Page, AZ. Very interesting flat water raft trip. You go through the horseshoe bend and can see people up there near the edge. They look very tiny. It is a long way down!

Lee's Ferry is a favorite for us, can be hot so timing is important. Never saw the Condors at the bridge.

Have stayed at Lee's Ferry several times. Very nice campground, no hookups. The Vermilion cliffs are stunning.

Out of curiosity, I had a look, and it's about 8 miles to Page from there as the crow (or condor) flies, but the drive is closer to 50 miles (yikes)?? I recall that it was a winding upsy downsy drive to North Rim from there. I would definitely do that route to GCNR again, and stop at LFCG.

Stayed there in late May last year. It is already hot at that time of the year. Not unbearable. The evening was nice. This is a use fee area as it is part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. If you stay in the campground you do not have to pay the use fee. (At least I didn’t and I had a Ranger stop by and chat with me at the campsite.) You also do not have to pay the use fee if visiting the Navajo Bridge as it is just outside of the Recreation Area. If you have a Senior Pass the campsite cost is halved. The sites were a little unlevel so have your blocks ready. There is a no fee tank dump available about a half mile down the road on the right as you approach Lee’s Ferry and there are rest rooms in the campground. You can walk to the river from the campsites or drive. A nice stopover on the way to or from the North Rim.

It’s really nice, if you can get one of the few spots overlooking the river. It’s not near Page. Going from Page, there it’s a pretty large, steep downgrade, and then the road back through a twisty canyon. It’s kinda out of the way, but very pretty. Bring lots of leveling blocks if your coach is over 25’

Yep, they are truly awesome. Great shot. You must have timed that bungee drop perfectly, to get such a clear shot. :B

One thing I remembered about the one we saw at the GCSR. Before the condor fly-by swoop, we noticed that there were lots of very large ravens along the rim. Just doing their thing, looking for handouts from the touristas, and flying around like they owned the place. They must have been getting too close to some of the smaller bird's nests, and seemed to be tormenting them, because the small birds would chase them around squawking and dive bombing them to get the ravens to leave the area.
What sticks in my mind was, when the condor appeared, suddenly it was these huge ravens chasing the condor around, while it pretty much ignored them, and they were cawing and squawking at the bigger bird, just like they had been tormenting the smaller birds a few minutes earlier. The condor made them look like sparrows, it was that big when in flight, compared to the ravens.
Your picture bought back that memory.

However, on our first trip to the Grand Canyon SR, we were walking the rim trail and happened to overhear a Ranger giving a talk about them to a small crowd. Said they were in the canyon, but fairly elusive and hard to spot. A few seconds later, one flew right up over the rim near where we were standing, but I didn't have time to react and get a picture, I was so surprised by it. Everyone was ooohing and ahhhing as it circled near us over the canyon a few times and then it flew off into the bowels of the canyon, slowly disappearing into the haze.
I did get some shots of a group of elk does walking past us farther along the rim trail that same day. We were all alone on a section of trail and stopped to grab a sip of water, and they walked right past us like we weren't even there. They gave us a quick look, and then just walked over to the edge of the canyon rim, and then disappeared over the edge.
