Looking for a Cool Place to Camp in AZ during the Summer

We went through our first AZ Summer last year. Zow! It was hot.

This year we're looking for some place cool to camp in our Class A for part of the Summer.

Any recommendations?

Try Big Lake, Apache Trout campground as it has some full hook-up sites. At 9000+ feet you won't get much cooler than that.

North Rim of the Grand Canyon! It is difficult to get reservations in the small dry campground at North Rim Village, but out in the forest, you can dry camp for weeks at a time, and it is fairly cool, due to the 7,500' elevation!

I would love to spend a summer there. It is not to hot, and the price is Right! You can then spend some time going to the nearby campgrounds, and dump there, fill with fresh water every 2 weeks or so.

You will not be to far from Bryce Canyon, also at 8,000' elevation, and a great place there is Ruby's Inn, a full hookup campground. THey have a hot tub, pool, ect.

Arizona is more based on elevation, where anything less than 2,000' elevation will be really warm, and you get feet of snow in the winter at the higher elevations. By the end of October, they get a couple of feet of snow at the North Rim, and it will not open again until the snow melts, sometimes as late as mid-May.

Think high: North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Mt Lemon, Mogollon Rim and other high places. Low is hot, high is cooler. The rule of thumb is that 1000 ft in altitude = going 500 miles north.

You've got go high - up in elevation - something over 7,000'. Look up by Williams or Show Low.
