After having my annual service done in Gaffney,SC this coming year I thought we spend a few days around Maggie Valley before heading to Maine for the summer. In the past we had stayed at Stonebridge, but the last time we were there the place was really run down plus now we have a 43 ft MH, so the sites that were tight with our old 36 ft MH will be really bad for the new one. Looking for FHU/50 amp, really don't need a pool or anything else.

Creekwood Farms RV. Lots of friendly people, great staff, quiet and close to Maggie Valley without the tight quarters of being on Main Street.

Stonebridge Rv Campground is renovated now and is near the main street of MV if you don't want to be far out of town. New roomy sites that fit large class As.http://www.stonebridgecampgrounds.com/We also like Great Outdoors RV Resort in Franklin, NC. http://gorvresort.com/If you have Scottish Heritage you might enjoy the Scottish Tartans Museum in downtown Franklin.Normally we stay in state parks but the offerings are slim in that regard around that area.

Thanks for the input--- We had stayed at Stonebridge several times due to their location and we dealt with the crowded sites. Last time it was a real disaster in the park. The pool was ripped up, the staff was indifferent/rude and worst of all, during the weeks we were there, the rest rooms were never cleaned. Hopefully the new owners took care of that, but did they change the layout and the site size ? I just looked at several RV park review sites, I still see ( as of a month or 2 ago) that people are still having issues with the size of the sites at Stonebridge,e.g. can't open awnings due to closeness of the other site. I think I'll pass on that place until I actually go there in person before reserving. We did stop in Franklin last year ( we were staying in Dillard,GA) and found the town to be pretty nice. We did not check out the GORV resort. I'd rather be closer to Maggie and the National Park than Franklin

Creekside Farms and Pride resort are right nest to each other on rt. 276 not that far out of Maggie Valley. There are a couple of others , Trails End is one but I am not familiar with them. Pride has nice sites that will fit your rig . Creekside is nice too. Both will fit your needs.

Yes- we drive to Cataloochee Valley when we visit Maggie Valley to view the Elk. The drive there is half the fun !

We stayed in Asheville last time and drove that direction... Maggie Valley is nicer.

We too enjoy the Maggie Valley area of the country and try to get up there about once a year. Our last trip we stayed at Pride RV, which is an old KOA from many years ago. It is very nice and recommended. We were staying at Stonebridge RV until they sold it to the large corporation and it started getting run down. When we have our smaller truck Camper instead of our 5th wheel, we have stayed at Hillbilly RV and Rippling Waters RV there in town. Another CG that looked good when we drove through and talked to the owner was Trails End, a couple of miles east of town. More of a destination type place it seemed to me.

The only place I would never return to is Winngray Family RV east of town. Beautiful place bu the grupiest owner/manager I have ever met. The only time we stayed there was about 4 years ago as the owner, referred to as "old Bill" and his wife "old Belle" were both in their 80s so neither may be currently involved in the campground operation. If they are gone it could be a real nice place to stay. Whenever a person walks into a campground office, has a reservation, and the old man behind the counter looks up and says "what the hell do you want?" a person should be smarter than I was and turn and walk out the door. That conversation was probably the best one I had with the guy during our stay. One of the seasonals staying there told me afte I parked my rig, to just do what I wanted, park where I wanted, etc and if Old Bill said anything, just tell he had approved it earlier. He would shrug his sholders and walk off. I tried it and it worked. His memory was somewhere in the 30 minute range. Absolute crank and one unhappy fellow.

The Maggie Valley area is a very old tourist area, so most of the campgrounds are also very old and weren't built to accommodate the largest of todays rigs. Many of the CGs use a Wayneville address which is the near by town. The best place to go shopping is Waynesville.

Creekside. Very nice spot. Passport America when we were there. Also in Ashville we love Mama Gerties.

We stayed at Pride this past July when we were on our way to Gaffney. We enjoyed the location and the staff and people were very friendly.

Yeah- we've been there a couple of times, they have great 'stuff' and Dale will start up bikes and ride them thru the building. I'll be back there this summer. definitely worth spending time there.
