Michigan

Looking for National Parks or National Forest sites in Michigan with electric hook up or campsites that you can run a generator at night. any info would be helpful. Have not been able to find anything on line.
  • Check with the seperate National Forests and state forests to see if they allow generator use.
  • Why only a National Park or National Forest? Most all of the state parks at a minimum offer electric sites and there is typically one located around the National Park(s) or National Forests if one of those is your destination.

If you don't have a specific destination in mind, I am sure that by sharing what you like to see or do and when you plan to travel would generate plenty of suggestions on where you should camp.
  • Can't say I've ever heard of a national forest actual designated campground allowing a generator to be running all night long not only in Michigan but in most other states or every state. That's what an inverter and a battery bank is for - the QUIET hours of about 8 or 10 pm until about 8 am. breathing assitance etc machines run fine on an inverter as 2 of our friends use them on their inverters every night when boondocking with no electric hookups. You sure don't need A/C at night in Michigan hardly ever as it's usually 60 degrees F in the summer at night.

Why would someone want to run a generator all night anyway? Might get away with it IF you are the only camper in the entire park and no ranger or DNR officer could hear it running. However, if they did hear it, you'd get a loud knock on your RV door and maybe even a personal coupon issued to you that you can redeem at the courthouse.

State parks never allow generators running at night in the Midwest or any other state we've been in and it's stated so right in the park rules you sign that you must agree to. Kind of a strange request but the OP must have a reason to be asking about it. There's a couyple thousand CG's in Michigan and we've been RV here and in the 49 of the 50 states minus Hawaii for over 50 years now plus a lot in Canada.
  • Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in the Leelanau Peninsula has two campgrounds.....Platte River and D. H. Day.

    D. H. Day Campground does not offer electricity and you can only run a generator during certain daylight hours in 31 campsites (campsite #1 thru campsite #31).

The Platte River Campground has electricity in 3 out of the 4 campground loops. Generator use is not allowed there at any time.
  • Holland Beach also has some fhu. As mentioned, most if not all state parks have electric, but all also have quiet hours which would probably preclude the use of a generator at night.
  • Pretty much every Michigan state park CG is electric only, with the exception of only 3 or 4, Sterling, Hartwick Pines, and ?. And those have both Electric only and FHU.
  • Sleeping Bear NL has electric hook-ups in three loops. If you look at your hand
as a map it is the top of the little finger, NL=National Lakeshore.
