Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach State Park. Great place. Close to all you could care to do. Plenty of nice shady spots. Great beach, fishing pier

IF you don't already have reservations. There is a good chance you ain't going, especially to a oceanfront CG.

As for close to shows. All the good MB CGs are South, and North of MB proper. The shows are back off the beach. Easy (except for traffic) to get to from any CG.

North MB, has restaurant row, and The Myrtle Beach Travel Park, and Apache , are the ocean front CGs up there. Also easy access to the roads running to the shows.
Ocean Lake, Lakewood, and Pirate Land are the South MB CGs. They also have good access to the roads to the shows. Every one has their favorite, and in truth, you can't go wrong with any of them. We like PirateLand because it is quieter, and the security keeps a better watch on the golf carts, and quiet time.

At this short notice. You will more than likely have to take what you can get, and hope for a cancelation. Call now. The sites are booked full no less than a year in advance. But people do cancel. usually no less than 2 weeks before they are to arrive. Start calling now. Apache is usually the last to fill up. Good luck

I would recommend Huntington Beach State Park. A little further south but still an easy drive to any of the attractions in MB. It has the best beach in the area. Decades ago they built a jetty to control beach erosion in MB. Didn't work. All the sand they dump on MB beaches finds its way to Huntington Beach, so the beach is getting bigger.

I like MB State Park, but it is MUCH busier. It is also on the flight path for the airport. So around 6AM the jets starting coming and going. They are either landing or taking off right over the park and quite low at that point.

However, it is late to schedule anything this year. I was looking last week at all the coastal parks for sites in 2020, and the pickings are already slim for next year.

I agree with the others that the only way you're likely to get into a campground in MB on this late notice is if you get lucky and catch a cancellation. If being ocean front isn't an absolute must then you might check out Willow Tree Resort and Campground in Longs, SC. It's about a 15 minute drive into MB, but it's a very nice place. But I'm thinking they probably won't have much more availability (if any) than the ones right on the ocean.

Another vote for the state parks.
If you like megaparks (ie, you are bringing kids), Lakewood and Ocean Lakes.
If you like more...ahem, senior time, Myrtle Beach Travel Park.
Personally, I thought Apache was a dump. Maybe they've spruced it up since I drove thru it. But it does have that pier to fish from.

And as said, you Really want to work on those reservations for that time frame.

If you don't need to be on the beach you can try Willow Tree inland.+

Cypress Camping Resort is on the Intracoastal Waterway on the south end of Myrtle Beach - you may find a site available at this late date.

Beautiful setting on the waterway and great owners.
