NASCAR Charlotte

Never miss a meeting! Otherwise this might happen!!
I been ask to get feedback on the best RV parks to stay at to tour the NASCAR shops around Charlotte and the surrounding area. We have looked at the Yates Family Camping in Harrisburg.
We would appreciate any suggestion and/or comments.
Thank you,
Willie Moore
  • We stayed at a KOA in SOUTH Carolina....maybe 8 miles from the border...and not too far from the "Hall of Fame" or various driver garages (headquarters). IMO, your problem would not be getting TO Charlotte...but the various garages are really far apart....one end of the city to the other. But...the Hall of Fame will give you the address, etc....and good luck finding them. For instance, for just one day, we went to the Hall of Fame then to Michael Waltrip Racing...and that did the whole 10 hour day. Hope you're there for a few days to really enjoy things..

G'luck and enjoy! Oh..and, BTW, we found that KOA to be just fine...even tho the entrance is a little strange (a fast food place).
  • Tom Johnson Camping Racing Resort, Concord, North Carolina. Hands down. Full hookups on every site. Gravel sites, and during races, you will be back to back with other rigs, but the sites are spacious and well kept. It is right there amid the racing compound and walking distance to everything. You can see the track buildings from the camp. Very reasonable at other than race times. It is pretty much a gravel parking lot with hookups, but was built specifically for race goers. We camp here usually twice a year going to/from Florida from Virginia. We know we can always get a site and power is good, etc. Look it up on RV Park Reviews. We've also stayed at Apollo, which is decent, but once we saw the other, we always go there. Easy in/out, etc.

  • I agree with the Tom Johnson park for being close to the track, and ease of travel to other locations. Plus close to restaurants, and attractions.
Also you could try Statesville KOA. Not far out of Charlotte, and close to many of the Race shops as many are located near Moorsville NC.
  • We have stayed at Yates for the races and find it to be fine. It's clean and the management is super friendly and helpful. If you aren't looking for a lot of amenities it is fine.
  • If you want to tour Childress Racing, Tanglewood Park in Clemmons is great.
