I like dogs but hate the campers that leave them on a leash all night long, one guy had two labs, full grown and all they did was bark. Kids are okay by me. I enjoy the sound of laughter and playing by kids, take me back to a time in my life when things were simple. Isn't that what camping means to a degree, to live a little and enjoy it in your own way? A suggestion for the OP if they are wanting to camp near home, I would say go to a campground on Sunday afternoon or Monday during the school year and be moved out by Friday afternoon when the camping kids will start to arrive. the OP says older adults, I envision retirement age as older and so no conflict with getting time off work.
