New campground in Pigeon Forge

A new campground is being built in Pigeon Forge and looks like it will open late spring/early summer. Looks to be more upscale with optoons besides RV sites. It is related to River Plantation. The Ridge Outdoor Resort
  • Thanks for the feedback! Great info! I figured Nashville might be a bit far for a day trip. We are a music family so I feel like they would enjoy it but only for a day or so. We will continue researching. Thanks again!
  • kfp673- There is much more to do for the kids in Pigeon forge/Gatlinburg/Sevierville area than in Nashville in my opinion. Nashville is a nightlife honkey tonk type of place even though there are some things to see otherwise like the Hermitage, Andrew Jacksons home. It has a great museum and the home tour is interesting. If that would hold your kids interest for the 2-3 hours it takes to see. Nashville is a good drive from PF and not really a day trip from there. Separate trips would be better.

PF/G'burg area has everything from putt putt golf on elaborate set-ups to the Aquarium of the Smokies to hiking to waterfalls in the Nat'l park to go carts to dinner shows that are kid friendly and entertaining, Dolly's Stampede is a good show. Wonderworks hands on museum is kid oriented and interesting too. There is always Dollywood and Splash Country too. Lots to do.

The Ridge campground is supposed to open in May I believe but there are a bunch of other CG's to choose from too. Most have pools. Some are located right in the action of things, some are a little off the main drag and quieter.

We live some 20 miles outside of that area and like to play tourist at times ourselves. We love the area.
  • Pigeon Forge is 200+ miles from Nashville (at least according to Google). Only you can decide if that's too far from Nashville. I think you could do a long day visit, just don't know if kids could handle a 6 AM til about 9 or 10 PM "day", counting driving.

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is nice and lots to do.

  • Perfect timing for me with this thread. Hopefully a few of you can give me some info. We pick a different place to spend a week every year with the family (wife and 3 kids 11,11,2) and are seriously considering the smokeys this year. At the same time, I have been to Nashville on business and think my wife and kids would love a day or so visit, however we dont want to spend the entire week in teh city. We much prefer mountain camping. Is this too far from Nashville? Would it make more sense to spend 2 nights closer to town and then the rest of the week at a campground like this? I hear a lot about pigeon Forge and think the kids would love it there as well. Anyone familiar with TN and Smokey camping please share your thoughts. Thanks!
  • The Ridge is connected to River Plantation (not physically) as far as ownership goes. It is its location that might have made some people decide to go there instead of Anchor Down. The Ridge is over by Dollywood and is a lot closer to PF yet outside of the heavy traffic areas. Check out theridgeoutdoorresort.com
  • Looks interesting and I suppose anchor down had something to do with some of their regulars choosing it over them.
