New York Boondocking

Anyone know of Boondocking in New York. I live on Long Island and looking for boo docking in beautiful New York
Thanks
Dennis
  • New York State has some nice state parks (wellesley Island is one along the st Lawrence) but we are not known for boon docking. It is more like what can we get away with...we rarely try it...just stay in a county or state park.

Well, not "true" boondocking (i.e. not free) but they have no hook ups. Much less expensive and fewer campers.
True, I don't know of ANY NY State Parks that have "boondocking", many, (most) have "Dry Camping", (no hookups), boondocking is generally free, Dry Camping may or may not be free, certainly not free in a State Park Campground.

  • The closest thing I know of to boondocking in New York City (which, of course, is far from all there is to New York) is Floyd Bennet Field, run by the National Park Service. The tent sites look a lot more inviting than the RV sites, which are just designated slots in a parking lot (albeit one that's somewhat removed from the city traffic). RVs, I think all motor vehicles, are not permitted to be on those the tent sites, though.

I should really say the closest thing other than Gary's post's video that I just watched.
  • Pretty much any NY State Park campground has boondocking sites. I boondocked in the Adirondacks last fall (Old Forge area) and met several Long Island folks that make the trip there every summer/fall.
