North Cascade NP and Hwy 20 Questions

Early planning stages for a trip up from Kennewick to Hwy 20 and into the park for a week or so. Possibly mid to late May depending on hwy being punched open!!

Our trailer is 34ft oal, and with the Ex hooked up, we are 53ft oal approx. We do mostly deep forest camping, Nat Forest dispersed sites, and have not gotten into any "tight" situations, so far!!!

Not much info on site lengths in the park, so wondering if places like Colonial Creek and Nehalem would be any problem. Not only site length but also maneuverability. And favorite loops and/or sites.

Also considering going into the NF east of Marblemount along the Cascade River Road, so looking at any info for sites in that area from others that have headed into that area in the past.

Tanks in advance!!!
  • Understand the May and snow conditions, date for trip is open. Lots of snow levels this year, and here in Kennewick. And, I guess I wasn't very clear on my accessibility question.

Will we run into any close corners, too short sites, stuff like that in the 2 NP campgrounds I mentioned??

Going to and from the park, we will be "boondocking" in NF or other public sites, like up the road along the Chewuch River and/or the upper Methow River. Info around those also appreciated!!!

    Thanks!!!
  • Interior of the Cascade National park is pretty limited unless you are a back packer, or horse packer. The trails into the park are great. but the winter damage is not usually repaired until later in June. Parking is mostly limited to those camps close to Highway #20. Remember the altitude of most of the park is above 5,000' spring comes late at that altitude.
Two very forgotten camp grounds are the meadows camp at Harts pass, (you are not going to be able to go there) and the camp ground at Hozomeen. to get there you must enter Canada and come south from Hope BC. 40 miles and it is very remote, no hook ups, and you might be the only campers there.
