North Rim Campground

I was just researching routes and campgrounds to some places we want to visit on our trip this summer and according to their web site the North Rim campground at the Grand Canyon is only going to be first come first serve from May 15,2020 to August 31 2020. This because they are replacing a major waterline. Thought I might pass this on.

There are some fantastic dispersed locations on USFS land near the North Rim. A few years ago we stayed at Saddle Mt Overlook, right on the edge of the canyon rim - don't be a sleepwalker! But be prepared for a dusty road out and back. We took our brand-new Lazy Daze out there and it was covered in red dust, inside and out. DW wasn't too happy.

Other recommended spots are Crazy Jug Point and Indian Hollow.

We have visited the GC four times--twice to the north rim, once to the south rim and a 188 miles float trip on the Colorado River thru the GC. We do like the area! For the north rim, we took our 5th wheel and stayed at a FHU park about 1 mile south of Jacobs Lake and took AZ 67 down to the North Rim. We also drove our truck only on forest service roads in the area to the North Rim -- great ride. All our trips have been in the fall except for the float trip in August. The weather was great.

North Rim campground used to have vacancies even on peak summers.

Now, no longer. Must be because of posts like these, lol.:W

Not going this year but thanks for the info.

Demotte Campground in Kaibab National Forest is just 7 miles from the entrance to the Grand Canyon. They except reservations but they do not have any hookups. Of you are up for boondocking, it is a nice place.
I would not pass on the north rim area of the Grand Canyon. It is beautiful and much less crowded that the south rim. If you have time, drive out to Cape Royal.

That's interesting, thanks for the info. There are plenty of dispersed sites in the surround NF.
