North Rim Campgrounds - Best Sites

For those of you who have camped at the Grand Canyon North Rim Campgrounds, which do you feel are the best sites? Thanks in advance.

  • Or there's lots of boondocking way out in the National Forest, in the Rainbow Rim area, if you like solitude:

It's a long, slow drive out there, though.
  • When we stayed in the North Rim's campground, I thought the sites around 14, 16 area were the best because they were closest to the edge of one of the canyons and had a little bit of view. Also close to the trail that leads to the lodge.

"Best" is subjective, of course. Not everyone wants campers walking through headed for the trail. But most sites are pull through by the road or in a center area, not all that private.

I loved being at that CG and the NR, by the way. Good camp store with Wifi and a lot of amenities, laundry nearby. Very woodsy, nice staff when we were there (2011.)
  • We always enjoy the North Rim.

The last time we were there we stayed out at Jacob's Lake in the Kaibab Camper Village, a private park. Long drive into the Canyon, but we preferred to leave our fifth-wheel trailer out there and just drive in our our visit to the Canyon. Based on that experience, I think that's what we would do again.

  • I think the sites around 12 - 13 - 14 are for 40 feet. I choose this one (not sure of the number) for the sun. Notice the solar. I think Reserve America has photos of most of the sites.
  • I'm pretty sure the campground between Jacob Lake and the North Rim entrance gate is the De Motte Forest Service CG, about 12 miles from the rim.
  • We did the North Rim in 2012. Could not get into the NR CG. We don't make reservations most of the time. Just as well. We got into this CG, just a couple miles outside of the park but saving us dragging the trailer up & down some steep grades on the way to the NR.

Decent sized CG. Variety of site sizes. Can't remember the name for the life of me but it is just past the gas station on the right. Managed to get WIFI from the lodge just down the hill from it.
